Chapter 151: Dinner Felt Empty
Violet was beaten and exhausted from the day. The spaghetti dinner sat perfectly in her stomach. But her urge to feed from the room, was overwhelming her. She was feeling starved and all she wanted was the sweet relief from pain that feeding would bring her.
Ash was pleased with Violet’s efforts. He washed her every move today. Remembering her graceful movements, appreciating her, rather strong, instinct. Like she’s practiced before.
I’ve done a little training before, but it was nothing like this. Nothing like how she moved today. The determination in her mind. Everything was different about her. Her smell was even changing, it was strengthening, but also seemed less sweet, like an old fruit before it turns into alcohol.
Ash watched as she ate. Reminiscing on all the days they had dinner as a family. The table felt empty. Even with most of the family sitting at the table eating, with Odette gone. Nothing felt right.
He remembered how after a rigorous train session, she always wanted something sweet like icing. Ash trained her daily. Preparing her, he wanted to make sure she could handle the prophecy. Since she was old enough to fight, she’s been training. Only a few weeks off a year. Her life was micromanaged down to the food she ate. Now that he had time to sit back and think about it. Were they too strict? Did they do wrong by her? Was he too harsh?
Ash thought about the times he could have been more encouraging, and guilt started to swell in his chest.
He never stopped to question his tactics. He had to do this though; she needed to grow strong and sturdy. They had only scratched the surface with training her magical abilities.
There would be a war, and Ash intended to make sure she was ready and able to take down whatever enemy currently sat in the shadows.
Would she be able to keep training? Was she locked in a cell? Were they feeding her. The Goddess Artemis didn’t seem concerned. Did that mean Odette was okay? Or was the Goddess Artemis just cold hearted and indifferent to even her own daughter.
