Chapter 78: a side story with Jeremy and Rosa
Jeremy couldn’t figure out why he was so anxious and fidgety. This was just a party, it’s not like he was nervous about having all these people here, crowds didn’t make him anxious, they just made him uncomfortable, they were needlessly loud. People often expected for conversation to be reciprocated, which wasn’t something he cared to entertain. He felt most of these people and their lives were to mundane to talk about, and none of them would have topics of interest for him to want to engage in a conversation with him.
But Rosa... She was interesting to talk with. He could talk about a lot of things with Rosa, like they loved linguistics. She was a musician, though she only practiced in private, she played the Violin. She had a love of music and though she learned the classics through her lessons, she did... more... She made it sing.
How Jeremy wanted to play his cello while she played her violin. The music they could make together. What music he could learn to make from her different styles. When she told him his music made her cry, it was a big deal. He wanted to know why her music was a secret. He wanted to know everything about her actually.
Why was he thinking about Rosa right now when he should be focusing on the party, this was about his gentle Violet. Not her friend. He needed to pull himself together before he winds up late and Gabriel chews him out. The time tyrant.
He dresses in a slick tailored black tux.
Heading downstairs to meet with his siblings and his father apparently.
"You look dashing, little brother. Rosa is sure to notice." Oliver pokes at Jeremy.
"Why would you think I care about her noticing me?" Jeremy’s demeanor didn’t change, but a flicker of excitement showed in his eyes for only a moment.
Before Oliver could deliver a comeback the birthday girl and her entourage descended the stairs.
Everyone stopped their conversations as they looked at three beautiful women moving effortlessly down the stars. Violet looked stunning in her midnight dress.
But when he noticed Rosa, it was like an arrow hit him in the chest and he was entranced by her. She radiated grace and beauty; in this moment her nobility was showing. Anyone seeing her could easily assume she was among the rest of the aristocrats. It wouldn’t be until they got closer to her would they be able to smell her as a half breed.
