Chapter 965: Section 632: No. 3 (2)
Victor rented a place to the south of the city, where the rents were cheap at the onset of unrest—you see, Chaos was just outside the city, never knowing when it might breach the walls. Compared to the other three directions, the south bore the brunt.
At that time, Victor rented an attic at the very end of a dead-end street, accessed directly by a three-story lift at the back of the building, without the need to go through the main entrance, hence making it impossible to enter from the second floor.
Malin had Jason and Sostak No.3 climb the stairs, then opened a transport portal and went up to the rooftop with Lulu.
"Why can’t we enter that portal?" Sostak No.3 had a million whys.
"Because your thinking hasn’t been formatted, electronic signals can’t be shallowly contaminated by Subspace. If you went, you’d broadcast to the entire Subspace that an utterly unprotected guy has come visiting. If by chance you get warped by coordinates set there, we’d have to slaughter your body afterward, then back at the shelter, smash your maybe-now- cauliflowered brain."
A very standard Jason-style explanation that left Sostak No.3 speechless, eventually deciding to be a little kinder to his own brain.
Malin pushed open the door, with gold Harold quickly entering ahead of him. They carried instruments that could spare them the misfortune of stepping onto something and losing something.
However, Sostak No.3 had already scanned without problems, and Malin still had confidence in military AI scans.
After Halil entered carrying the evidence collection box needed for retrieving objects, Malin poked his head into the room: "This smell reminds me of the coldest days in Carterburg winter when a bunch of us apprentices were warming up with a mentor, and one guy took off his shoes to warm his feet and socks."
