Chapter 899: Section 595: The Scroll of the Future (Part 2)
Malin once thought that so-called cyberpunk was nothing more than countless billboards in urban-rural junctions, extravagant fashion of shaving areas right down to the eyebrow corners and soft nose bones, as for mechanical limbs and electronic organs, and the contrasting roles of the pink and the hackers, not to mention the military mega-corporations were just commonplace settings like everyday meals, a twisted combination of new bottles of the next century filled with the old wine of the last century.
But when Malin actually saw all this with his own eyes, he sighed, realizing this was the life he wanted to face. As the young lady just walking by lifted her leather coat to reveal a steel Mulan missile, Malin discovered that his own ideas about body modification were not bold enough. Look at her—how were her lungs handled? Where was her heart moved to? And how were her ribs and entire skeletal structure supporting those metal masses?
Of course, this did not stop Malin from giving this refreshingly frank young woman two big thumbs up.
"Ah hey," she said, somewhat embarrassedly sticking out her tongue, then she was chased into the crowd by cyborg police whistling, watching her disappear with them, Malin had a slight fondness for this era.
But it still wasn’t enough, Malin hadn’t seen the sight he was most eager to witness.
So, he continued moving forward, his Spiritual Energy spreading under his feet, causing bystanders to subconsciously avoid its master.
Malin saw a giant, whose arms had undergone mechanical modifications, seated on the second floor drinking. He spotted Malin, seemingly a capable individual, and raised his glass towards him.
Malin responded with a smile—after all, as someone gifted with Spiritual Energy, it was normal to sense Malin’s presence.
While reflecting, Malin also noticed some Domestic Fairies, and like their ancestors two millennia ago, these dark-eyed creatures gazed at Malin as if they had seen something, frightened, panicking, and eventually humbly lowered their heads.
The Domestic Fairies had enough insight to confirm Malin’s presence, perhaps they also saw something others couldn’t.
Malin scanned the crowd, looking for a unique creature that appears at dawn in the world. Only upon seeing this creature did Malin feel that the sacrifices his era’s people made were truly without regret.
