Chapter 671 - 469: Song of the Deep Diver (IV)
After entering the last number in the ledger, Faye’s furrowed brows finally relaxed, and dropping the pen, the matriarch of the Gaiate family came to understand the hardships her mother, Manli, had never spoken aloud.
Fate was always so merciless, and even though she had made enemies with Malin time and again, just as Malin had said, even at the moment of death, one must not forget everything this mother had done for her children.
Although she couldn’t understand that Malin had no designs on the throne, Faye saw the efforts Manli made for her eldest son and empathized. She felt that the lady hadn’t done anything wrong... It was just that they stood in different positions, so, being enemies was one thing, but understanding her was another.
But all that had come to an end; she had died, and to many, succumbing to illness was a far from satisfactory ending. However, in Faye’s view... if it weren’t for the Tide of the Dead, Malin would surely become the Gravedigger for all the royal families in the world, and what Manli had imagined would no longer be a delusion of an old woman but a tangible echo of doom.
So, precisely for this reason, Manli’s death by illness was, in a way, a good thing.
She would not have to watch her offspring perish in civil strife, nor could she have imagined that it was all because Malin saw a greater enemy.
Toward Malin, Faye bore no grudges. Their lovers had harbored no secrets, which is why Faye had stood by Malin’s side, just as he had said, this desolate world surely needed change, as every individual... has the right to pursue happiness.
Even if it meant opposing her father and brothers, Faye would feel no pain.
For she was now Faye Gaiate, not the Faye Mowish she once was.
Putting away the ledger and placing it in the center of the desk, Faye left her study to her mouse maid to clean and stepped out of the room, noticing her sister Lillim and Maya chatting in the hallway.
"What are you talking about?" Driven by curiosity, Faye approached them, looking at her sisters with a mixture of curiosity and puzzlement.
"I’ve been having a strange dream recently. The memory is very vivid. Today, when I brought it up, Maya said she had a similar dream too," Lillim said, looking toward Faye, "Have you had such dreams as well?"
