Chapter 118
Betrayed by Blood
It was as if time had stopped.
Kendra’s voice hung in the air, suffocating. Avery stared at her, shocked to her bones. Not only did she just tell Cain that she was trying to break their bond, but she also revealed to everyone that they were mates, something Cain had wanted to keep secret.
’No one must know about this,’ he had told her, only for Kendra to expose it all publicly. Avery’s face turned pale, and she gulped hard. The room stood frozen, with warriors, servants, and everyone around standing still, all of them staring.
Cain didn’t move. Didn’t blink.
Avery’s breath was shaky, uneven. Her lips parted, and she shook her head slowly. "No, no, no," she muttered, unsure of what she was saying no to. Was it the fact that she wanted to break their bond or the fact that they were mates? Cain didn’t hear her, his eyes fixed on the woman who had just revealed it all.
Kendra.
Kendra looked around, her veins straining tightly against her skin. Her breath hitched the moment she saw the shocked faces of everyone around, and her lips curled into a smile. "Oh, was that a secret? Which one? The one where Alpha Cain is mated to a slave or the one where the slave is trying to break their bond? Which is the secret?" she screamed.
She turned her head, her furious gaze locking onto Avery. And then she spat the words back at her, louder, sharper, crueler. "WHAT? WANT ME TO REPEAT IT AGAIN BECAUSE I KNOW IT ALL. I KNOW EVERYTHING!"
Cain stiffened. His wolf bristled.
She was shaking now, her chest heaving as she took a step forward. "What now, Alpha? What will you do now? Now that you know that she is trying to break your bond. Now that she wants to reject you yet again. What will you do?" Kendra spat out.
