Chapter 77
Betrayed by Blood
Kendra paced back and forth in her room, her heels clicking against the polished wood floor. The walls, painted in muted golds and silvers, did little to soothe the anger bubbling inside of her. It had been a week since Cain ruthlessly banished her from his pack as if she meant nothing to him. He threw her out without a second thought, all for that servant. Kendra had spent days in bed, pondering where she went wrong. Why he had to punish her when he initially wanted this. He wanted her to threaten Avery too, so why? Why couldn’t he see she was only doing this because of him? Why did he have to act like she was worth nothing? He humiliated her so horribly. Her, Kendra, the envy of other women. He turned her into a laughing stock all for a pathetic excuse of a woman.
Now, she was much calmer. She wasn’t angry at him anymore. Now, all she wanted was to hear from him. Kendra glanced at her phone on the bedside table, ringing endlessly. She crossed her arms, tapping her fingers impatiently against her sleeve.
Finally, the call connected.
"What do you want, Kendra?" Carol’s voice was sharp and impatient.
"Mother!" Kendra blurted out, stopping mid-stride. "How is Cain? He’s not been answering my calls or messages. What’s happening at Vehiron, mother? Has Cain said anything about me? Does he miss me? Has he tried-"
"Oh my goodness, Kendra! Shut the hell up," Carol barked through the phone, her voice sharp enough to cut through Kendra’s frantic rambling. "You think Cain’s losing sleep over you? Use your damn head for once."
Kendra froze at her mother’s tone, her lips parting in shock. "I—What are you talking about? I didn’t do anything wrong! It’s that stupid little—"
"Own up to your shit for once and stop being a goddamn coward! You’re calling me for the first time since your humiliating exit, and your first question is about Cain? A man who has not a shred of sympathy for you? Have you really lost all your senses, Kendra? I didn’t raise you to be a man’s doormat!" Carol snapped irritatedly.
