Betrayed by Blood, Claimed by the Alpha

Chapter 58

Betrayed by Blood

"She is overheated, which would explain the sweating despite the cold room. But more concerning is her... physical state." He looked at Cain, his gaze dropping slightly, "She’s in pre-heat, Alpha."

Cain stood by the bed, his gaze fixed on Avery’s pale, sweat-slicked face. The doctor’s words echoed in his mind, louder than they should.

Pre-heat.

How was this even possible? She hasn’t gotten her wolf yet, so how? How could her sub-gender already show? It wasn’t two months yet, so how? These thoughts remained through his head as the doctor continued his check-up on her. As though the man could sense his thoughts, he straightened, grabbing his suitcase, ready to leave.

"Alpha, I believe she hasn’t gotten her wolf yet and is already showing signs of preheat. I believe she’s been under immense stress, and this has triggered her heat before its time..." the man said, and Cain nodded, his gaze stuck on an unconscious Avery.

Just as the doctor reached the door, he paused for a second, turning back to look at Cain, whose eyes were fixed on Avery. "Alpha, I know this is beyond my status, but forgive me... Her heat will be gruesome when it finally arrives, seeing as it’s coming before it’s supposed to." He paused again, swallowing hard. "It’ll do her immense relief if her mate shared her heat with her." He rushed out then bowed before rushing out of the room.

Cain stood still, the man’s last words echoing in the room. ’It’ll do her immense relief if her mate shared her heat with her.’ Cain shook his head, dragging his hand over his face, he turned towards his alcohol cabinet and reached for a whiskey but paused, turning back to look at Avery still unconscious on his bed. He shut his eyes tight and instead reached for a bottled water, drinking it all in one go like a starved thirsty man.

Cain clenched the empty bottle in his hand, his jaw tightening as he tried to push the doctor’s words from his mind.

His gaze drifted back to Avery, her chest rising and falling shallowly, her damp hair clinging to her face. She looked fragile, smaller somehow, and for a moment, something inside him stirred.
