Chapter 273- After The Event (III)
"I’m sorry. I made a mistake. Please forgive me," Nina was crying badly. Her voice was trembling as she was sobbing uncontrollably. Marissa didn’t know how to react. At this point, she couldn’t decide if they were real tears or just crocodile ones.
Nina couldn’t be truly remorseful but tonight she wasn’t trying to manipulate the situation.
Being Nina Sinclair, this must be the first time she didn’t use her right to step inside her home. She didn’t cross boundaries this time, this might be the first time she hadn’t barreled through life on her own terms.
This time there was no force used, no entitled behaviors were flashed.
"Nina," Marissa said softly but firmly, "I need you to leave."
"Not until you forgive me, Valerie," Sophie who was standing behind Marissa, chuckled sarcastically, crossing her arms with the air of disgust.
"Irony! Isn’t it? You’re here to seek her forgiveness yet you can’t even remember that she is Marissa, not Valerie," Sophie’s voice was dripping in sarcasm, "How pathetic can a woman be, Nina."
Nina wasn’t crying anymore but her tears were still gliding down her face. Her face was horribly swollen, and her eyes had turned into thin slits due to excessive crying.
"I’m sorry... it’s Marissa... yeah," she corrected herself, the name was still struggling to leave her lips. A hollow laugh came out of her mouth that was barely audible, "Old habits die hard. Ha-ha. But those kids... they are my..."
"Don’t!" Marissa snapped, her voice slicing through the air. The timid Marissa who never knew how to speak for herself couldn’t hear about her kids from her dirty mouth. For the first time in years, she stood her ground, "Stay away from my kids!"
Nina started shaking her head violently, clasping her palms together in desperation, "N-no... please... don’t do that to me, Marissa... I might hate you and I might have preferred your sister all along. But those kids? They are my..."
