Even though Yelena desperately wanted answers about the past, her focus was pulled to her daughter’s fragile state in front of her. Charlotte’s usual fiery energy had dimmed, leaving her looking so weak and small that it pained her mother to watch.
Yelena took a step forward, ready to reach out and call Charlotte’s name,
But before she could, Charlotte suddenly perked up in Mika’s embrace, her head shooting up with a cheerful grin plastered across her face.
"Oh, that feels so good! Feels so good!" She exclaimed in a singsong voice, her arms stretching out in a victorious pose like she’d just won a competition. "Just one hug from Mika and I feel like I’ve been reborn again!"
Yelena froze, blinking in confusion as her daughter twirled on the spot, hugging herself with a goofy little laugh.
"Charlotte?" She asked cautiously. "Are you really alright? You looked...you looked so down just a moment ago."
"Of course I’m alright, Mama!" Charlotte replied with a wide, innocent smile. "It’s true that I felt a little gloomy for a second, but after snuggling up with Mika..." Her eyes fluttered dreamily as she inhaled deeply. "Ahhh...just breathing in his scent, taking in his stench and odor, it’s like my soul’s been healed!"
Mika’s brow twitched as he smiled wryly at her. "Oi, oi...don’t say it like that. You’re making it sound like I have terrible body odor or something."
Charlotte giggled and clung to his arm again. "But you don’t! That’s why it works so well. It’s the divine smell of Mika himself. No one else could ever compare."
Watching the scene unfold, Yelena let out a deep breath of relief. Her daughter didn’t seem nearly as fragile now. Instead, she looked...happy. Genuinely happy. And it struck Yelena then just how vital Mika was to Charlotte’s entire being.
’This boy...’ Yelena thought, her gaze softening. ’If one day he really does marry my daughter...she’ll probably be the happiest girl in the entire world.’
Just as she let out a quiet sigh and felt her shoulders relax, her nose suddenly twitched.
