Chapter 48: Assault at Midnight
Leaving the blood lake behind him, Azrael flew with dashing speed toward the base.
’Stranded in a golden land, surrounded by a lava ocean, blizzards, a ruined kingdom and a colossal canyon filled with blood,’
He thought grimly, taking a puff from Gray’s Cigar.
When he had entered the Moon Breakers, he’d been told that the Marked had only a five percent chance of surviving and reaching the Proven Level. At the time, he’d thought that percentage was too low... Now it felt too high.
As he neared the base, he landed Cinder and dispelled the beast. He suspected Isolde had told Seraphina that he possessed a Remembrance, but that didn’t mean the rest of the camp knew. He simply felt better keeping a few cards hidden up his sleeve, just in case.
An hour later the base came into view, making Azrael’s body relax slightly. He hadn’t slept for close to 48 hours now. Being a System User suppressed his exhaustion, but everything had its limits.
The guards gave him a look that wasn’t particularly welcoming, but they let him pass nonetheless.
Once inside, he quickly found Seraphina and made his way toward her.
"You’re back?" She asked, her eyes narrowing momentarily.
’Hey, now did you think I would die or something?’ He didn’t voice his thoughts out loud.
It didn’t take a long time to report to her about the blood lake.
"Blood, you say..." She murmured, eyes drifting south.
