Chapter 67 - 62 Competition
The setting sun dipped below the horizon, adorning the sky with a splendid, majestic purplish-red hue. Carriages journeyed on the return road to Chang’an City.
In the carriages, some wept while others laughed.
Beside the road, the young soldiers on guard chewed grass roots out of sheer boredom. Spotting an official passing by, they promptly spat out the grass and straightened their posture.
"It’s over."
Li Ang, seated inside the carriage, slowly let down the curtain and exhaled deeply.
"Young Master..."
Chai Cuiqiao hesitated, trailing off. Li Ang saw the expression on her face and knew what she wanted to ask. Smiling, he said, "Today’s exam went fairly well. The Scriptures and strategy questions were comparatively easy. I received an ’Excellent’ in the Imperial Examination subject, and was mid-tier in Archery.
"All things considered, there shouldn’t be any issues passing the preliminary test.
"As for the mathematics section..."
Chai Cuiqiao asked subconsciously, "Was it difficult?"
"Not particularly."
Li Ang pondered. "The questions in the mathematics section leaned more toward practical applications. For instance, one problem involved drafting laborers from four counties—A, B, C, and D—to build a river embankment with an isosceles trapezoidal cross-section. You were given numerous variables: the differences between the upper and lower bases at both ends of the embankment; the height differences at both ends; the difference between the upper base and the height difference at one end; and the difference between the height and the embankment’s length at one end. Additionally, data was provided on the number of laborers from each county, the average amount of soil each person could move daily, the distances for transporting soil across varied terrain, the efficiency of load-bearing transport, the total volume of earth required, and the final completion time.
