Chapter 1342: Planting the Bomb
It’s a bit tricky to get him to leave, but to distract him, that’s much easier.
So, the assassin came up with a plan, which was to have someone else attract the driver’s attention, while he took the opportunity to plant explosives under the car when the driver wasn’t paying attention.
The assassin found a little hoodlum and had him do some weird movements in the parking lot, even having him go to the front of Jiang Xue’s car to attract Huo Cong’s attention.
Huo Cong was inside the car, feeling bored, with a drowsy expression. But at this moment, a figure broke into his view.
As a retired soldier, he still had keen eyesight. He instantly recognized the person as a petty hoodlum, so he speculated whether the guy might be there to steal cars.
Because of this thought, his attention remained on that hoodlum. And when the assassin saw that Huo Cong’s attention was entirely drawn to the hoodlum, he immediately slipped into the bottom of the car from behind and started installing the bomb.
Huo Cong was so focused on the hoodlum that he didn’t notice the assassin’s actions at all; nor did he think the person would be installing a bomb under the car.
The assassin quickly finished installing the bomb, then swiftly withdrew. Meanwhile, the hoodlum wandered through the parking lot, almost visiting all the cars, yet did not make any attempts to steal as Huo Cong had anticipated.
Finally, the hoodlum reached the car where Huo Cong was, and when he saw Huo Cong inside the car, he was startled and quickly ran away.
Watching the hoodlum flee hastily, a faint smile appeared on Huo Cong’s face. Even then, he did not sense anything out of the ordinary.
With nothing attracting his attention anymore, Huo Cong closed his eyes again, resting while waiting for Jiang Xue to come out.
As time passed bit by bit, Huo Cong didn’t have anything to do, so he started pondering over issues. Like why that little hoodlum would come to the parking lot, especially since entry to this underground garage required security approval.
Was it possible the hotel’s security was a sham, failing to recognize the identity of the hoodlum? But if they did recognize the hoodlum, why would they let him in?
Following this train of thought, Huo Cong gradually thought more. He suddenly recalled that shortly after the hoodlum appeared, his peripheral vision seemed to catch a shadow pass quickly in the car’s rearview mirror.
That shadow moved swiftly, fleetingly. At that moment, his attention was on the hoodlum, so he didn’t care.
Thinking back now, he suddenly felt something strange. Was that shadow really just a shadow? What if it wasn’t a shadow but a person?
And why did that person choose to appear at that time? What was the purpose?
The more Huo Cong thought, the more his face grew concerned. Considering recent events Jiang Xue encountered, and the reason for his presence by Jiang Xue’s side, he immediately got out of the car and began inspecting around the vehicle.
The assassin watched secretly as Huo Cong got out and checked the car, his heart in his throat. He silently prayed that Huo Cong wouldn’t discover the bomb at the bottom of the car, hoping he would quickly return to the vehicle.
Perhaps the assassin’s prayers were answered, as after circling the car, Huo Cong found nothing, and thus returned to the car.
But once back in the car, he felt increasingly uneasy. For some reason, he kept feeling that the hoodlum was problematic.
