Chapter 1329: Attempt to Kill Jiang Xue
What he didn’t know was that at this very moment, the door of the staff dorm suddenly opened, a figure slipped out and headed straight for the guest room where Jiang Xue was staying.
Right then Jiang Xue was fast asleep, completely unaware that danger was approaching. Fortunately, there was the Little Fox. The Little Fox in the space sensed the danger and immediately woke Jiang Xue up.
"Woman, woman, wake up, hurry and wake up, someone’s coming this way, and they might be bad news for you." The Little Fox shouted loudly at Jiang Xue.
Luckily, Jiang Xue was not sleeping too deeply, and woke up the moment the Little Fox called out.
"What’s going on?" Jiang Xue flashed straight into the space and asked the Little Fox.
"I’m guessing you ruined someone’s plans, so they’re coming to kill you."
"This is the State Security Bureau’s turf, who the hell is so blind they’d actually come here to kill me?" Jiang Xue found it a bit hard to believe.
"Don’t believe me then, whatever!" The Little Fox rolled its eyes at Jiang Xue, then said, "That person is almost at your door. Are you going out or staying in here?"
"Of course I’m going out to meet them."
"Fine then, hurry up and get out there. Be careful, don’t get screwed over."
"Don’t worry."
Jiang Xue flashed out of the space. Just in case, she grabbed a dagger on her way out.
She had just lain back on the bed when a faint sound of footsteps stopped at her door. If she hadn’t been prepared, an ordinary person would never have noticed it.
The intruder stopped at Jiang Xue’s door, then took out a length of wire and gently worked at the lock.
In no time, the lock clicked open. The person eased the door open and slipped quietly inside.
The intruder glanced at Jiang Xue’s bed, and when he saw the quilt bulging up, a cold light flashed in his eyes. He darted up to the bed, then raised his dagger and stabbed down at the bulge under the quilt.
With the first stab, something felt wrong, making the Assassin’s expression change. He retreated quickly toward the door. But before he could reach it, a gust of force swept toward him, forcing him to dodge in haste.
The Assassin had never imagined that the bulge on the bed wasn’t the sleeping Jiang Xue at all, but Jiang Xue’s medicine chest. As for Jiang Xue, the moment he’d paused at the door, she had already slipped behind it.
"Murder!" Jiang Xue shouted as she fought the Assassin, her voice amplified with Spiritual Power, spreading far away while also clearly reaching Mr. Lan in his office.
Hearing the shout, Mr. Lan’s face changed, and he rushed out of his office, heading toward Jiang Xue’s room. Because Jiang Xue’s voice was loud enough, not only did Mr. Lan hear it, the others who were sleeping also heard it.
One by one they ran out of their rooms and headed toward Jiang Xue’s. The Assassin knew things had gone bad the instant he heard Jiang Xue shout. His first thought was to escape.
However, Jiang Xue had no intention of letting him slip away so easily. With a flicker of her body, she blocked his way out.
Whether it was the door or the window, she didn’t give him the slightest chance. The footsteps outside were getting closer and closer. The Assassin knew that once people arrived, if he didn’t leave now, he’d not only be exposed, he might even lose his life.
So he made a snap decision: while dodging one of Jiang Xue’s strikes, he pulled out a silenced handgun, intending to shoot Jiang Xue and then escape through the window.
But before he could fire, Jiang Xue had already flicked a needle that sank straight into his wrist. Pain shot through his hand, and with a smack the gun dropped to the floor.
