Chapter 1274: Repaying Kindness with Enmity
Once Mr. Lan left, Jiang Xue moved to the side of the large bed and lay down, closing her eyes to rest. She estimated that she might need to help the elder detoxify later, so she’d better gather her energy first.
As for Mr. Lan, based on the description Jiang Xue provided, he quickly identified the person who served Elder Jun closely. However, nobody expected that the person who poisoned Elder Jun turned out to be a woman whom Elder Jun had once saved.
The woman is now a housekeeper in Elder Jun’s home, responsible for cleaning.
When Mr. Lan brought people to capture her, the woman was still struggling and then questioned Mr. Lan: "Mr. Lan, what are you doing?"
"Liu Guifang, you should clearly know why we’re arresting you." Mr. Lan looked at her coldly and said, "Remember how you survived? The old chief saved you, provided you with a job, and gave you a place to live. But you repay him like this? Is your conscience not troubled?"
"Mr. Lan, what are you talking about? I don’t understand." Liu Guifang pretended not to understand, but inside she was very unsettled.

But now, how did they identify her so quickly? What could possibly have gone wrong?

"Don’t understand?" Mr. Lan sneered and said, "You’ll comprehend once you reach the place."

Even though Liu Guifang was unwilling, she was still taken away by Mr. Lan and his subordinates. They brought Liu Guifang to a special interrogation room and started questioning her.
Yet, despite being a woman, Liu Guifang kept her lips tightly sealed, refusing to admit she poisoned the old chief regardless of Mr. Lan’s persistent questioning.
Later, Mr. Lan had no choice but to use torture on Liu Guifang, but she continued to stubbornly deny involvement.
Seeing Liu Guifang remain unyielding and continuing to deny, Mr. Lan felt helpless. Even with torture, he couldn’t go too far, fearing Liu Guifang would not endure.
After hours of questioning, without extracting any confession, Mr. Lan was frustrated. Ultimately, he had to temporarily give up and then seek guidance from the old chief.
Upon hearing that the person who poisoned him had been caught, the old chief was naturally pleased. When he learned the culprit was Liu Guifang, his expression darkened.
Liu Guifang was a woman he saved on his way back home several years ago. At that time, her husband had just passed away, her property and children were taken by her in-laws, and she was thrown out by them, left in the freezing cold without even a cotton coat.
If he hadn’t passed by at that time, this woman would have frozen to death. Later, not only did he save her, seeing her homeless and pitiful, he brought her back and provided her with a job.
But instead of repaying his kindness, she chose to reciprocate with enmity, poisoning him. What an unforgivable act!
"Has she confessed?" Elder Jun was angry but didn’t forget the serious matter.
"Not yet!" Mr. Lan shook his head and said, "The woman’s mouth is tight, won’t open. I’m still trying to find a way."
"No matter what, you’ve got to break her. I want to know, having treated her so well, why did she do this?" Elder Jun instructed.
