Chapter 520 Meeting the Leader (Part 1)
Thinking of how Lu Ling caused him to have a disciplinary action, Mu Qiancheng’s face darkened.
Lu Ling also noticed Mu Qiancheng and was about to greet him when she saw her father glance at her. Just that one glance was enough to swallow back her greeting.
"Mr. Lu!" Mu Qiancheng nodded to the leader and then asked, "I wonder what instructions Mr. Lu has for calling me here?"
"Are you Mu Qiancheng?" Mr. Lu asked coldly, looking at Mu Qiancheng. It was his first time meeting Mu Qiancheng; he had only heard his name before. Later, because of his daughter Lu Ling, he specifically had someone investigate him.
But it was the first time they were meeting in a meaningful sense.
"Yes, sir!"
"Have a seat!" Mr. Lu looked at Mu Qiancheng for a while before signaling for him to sit down, as if preparing for a long talk.
Mu Qiancheng’s gaze flickered, and he sat down, waiting quietly for Mr. Lu to speak. Lu Ling sat beside Mr. Lu, directly opposite Mu Qiancheng. She looked at Mu Qiancheng several times, wanting to speak, but was stopped by Mr. Lu.
Mr. Lu understood his daughter’s feelings, but he had no high regard for Mu Qiancheng. His being married alone disqualified him from being his son-in-law. Moreover, Mu Qiancheng’s background was too low; a poor boy from the countryside had no benefits to offer either to him or to Lu Ling.
Unlike Ouyang Yi, who, even if he lacked power, had money, making him a perfect match for Lu Ling. As a leader of the unit, Mr. Lu was lacking in wealth, and with Ouyang Yi’s help, his path could certainly be smoother.
"Mu Qiancheng, you must be quite surprised that I would look for you?" Mr. Lu finally spoke after a long while.
Mu Qiancheng glanced at Mr. Lu and nodded. He was truly surprised that someone as busy as Mr. Lu would personally seek him out.
To be honest, he felt quite honored.
Mr. Lu looked at Mu Qiancheng and didn’t beat around the bush, directly saying, "My daughter likes you!"
Mu Qiancheng raised an eyebrow, looking at Mr. Lu. He knew the other party still had more to say. Lu Ling, on the other hand, felt somewhat embarrassed, rare for her to feel shy.
However, after waiting for a while, Mu Qiancheng saw that Mr. Lu did not seem to have the urgency to speak further, and he couldn’t help but frown and say, "Miss Lu’s affection is misplaced, Mu Qiancheng cannot aspire to it."
Those words made not only Lu Ling’s expression turn unpleasant but also Mr. Lu’s. In Mr. Lu’s eyes, his daughter was worthy of any excellent man in the world.
Moreover, as a father, he would only allow his daughter to reject others, but how could he permit others to reject his daughter?
Even if Mu Qiancheng was married, it was not a reason to look down on Lu Ling.
Thus, Mr. Lu’s face sank, and he said, "Mu Qiancheng, how arrogant of you to think my daughter would marry no one but you?"
"Mr. Lu, you’ve misunderstood me. I mean nothing else. Miss Lu has talent and beauty; I am unworthy of her."
Hearing these words, Mr. Lu’s expression softened significantly; indeed, Mu Qiancheng was unworthy of his daughter. So he snorted coldly and said, "At least you have self-awareness."
"Yes, Qiancheng has always been self-aware, knowing he is unworthy of Miss Lu, so he tries to stay away. Yet, Miss Lu somehow doesn’t seem to grasp Qiancheng’s intent and always likes to trouble him. I find myself quite helpless about this. I ask Mr. Lu to please discipline Miss Lu more and prevent her from pestering Qiancheng any further. After all, Qiancheng is a married man, isn’t he?"
