Chapter 307 - The Ship: Part One
With the meal finished, Ren got up off the bed and handed out pieces of cloth to his personal maids so they could wipe off their hands and faces. While they did that, he made a small half-sized cabinet and lined the top of it with thick cloth and then paving stones to make an improvised sink. He put a single stone square on the bottom of it and enchanted it with a 5 rune glyph of Antiwater, then made a small wood holder for another one to be used as a tap, and enchanted that with a 5 rune glyph of Water.
Ren had thought about his personal maids as he did both enchantments, so the enchantments would respond to their commands. He was tempted to mix up a tiny little bit of cement to seal the corners of the sink and make sure it was water tight, even though the paving stones locked together; but, then his personal maids would have to wait for several hours for it to dry and he wanted them to be able to use it right away.
“What are you doing?” Frikara asked.
“Making a sink.” Ren said.
“That can't work.” Lusinia said. “There's no pipes to the outside.”
Ren smiled. “It doesn't need a pipe.” He said and pointed to the steel square on the bottom. “This will absorb the water.”
Navruth laughed. “Metal can't absorb water!”
“It's enchanted.” Ren said, then explained how it worked.
“We can all use it?” Andrela said and looked at the tap as she thought about Water. “Activate!”
Water came out of the enchanted steel square and started to fill the sink, and Ren felt her enjoyment.
“Deactivate.” Frikara said and the water stopped. “Try the other one.”
Andrela thought about the Water going away and looked at the steel square on the bottom of the sink. “Activate!”
The water started to be sucked into the steel square and after a few moments, it was all gone.
“So if we activated both...” Navruth said.
“It'll be a continuous stream.” Ren said and activated the 'tap' to turn on the water. It came out of one steel square and disappeared into the other.
“That's amazing!” Verwynn said and stuck her hands under the water. “Now all we need is some soap.”
Ren smiled as he remembered that soap would get rid of his beard. “I'll see if the ship has anything on board.”
“Thank you.” Verwynn said and Ren moved the dresser away from the door and unlocked it. He went outside and equipped his Travelling Clothes to clean himself up and his armor bodysuit went into inventory automatically. He stopped the first deckhand he saw and asked where to get soap. The deckhand told him, and he went down the hall a short way and opened a door. It revealed all the miscellaneous small supplies that a ship at sea would need.
Ren found soap almost immediately, and closed the door with the intention to go back and use Identify on everything. Because of the sheer number of things inside, it seemed like a good chance to grind the skill. He went back to his cabin and gave Verwynn the soap, and she used it to scrub her hands and face with the piece of cloth Ren had given her earlier. She started to wash her arms, and Ren put a hand on her shoulder.
“I'll make a tub for that.” Ren said, and she looked at him.
“But the water's right here.” Verwynn said and deactivated the 'drain'. The sink filled up after a minute and she turned off the 'tap'. “We don't really need a tub.”
“But...” Ren said.
“This is fine.” Lusinia said and used the soap to lather up her piece of cloth. “We can take turns.”
“How will you rinse off?” Ren asked.
Verwynn took the steel square off of the tap and held her soapy arm over the sink and activated it. Water came out and rinsed the soap off.
“Okay, that's a pretty smart way to do it.” Ren said.
Verwynn's face turned a slight red color, and Ren felt how much she liked his compliment on her intelligence.
“We've got about 2 weeks before we get to Aurora, and I'm not going to make you wash yourselves in a sink.” Ren said. “I've got half a dozen empty cabins on this huge ship, so I might as well use one of them as a room for a bath.”
“Please, don't go to any trouble for us.” Frikara said. “We've gotten by with a lot less than this several times; both before and since we signed our contracts.”
“Then I give you my word that you'll have a full bath by the end of the day.” Ren said. “You can clean yourselves up a little with this thing...” He said and tapped the sink. “...but, it's supposed to be for your hands and face only. You need a much bigger receptacle for an actual bath.”
“Ren...” Frikara started to say, then she felt his determination and knew he would refuse any request to stop. “...by the end of the day.” She said instead and nodded slightly.
Ren smiled and the shared Aura flooded with how happy he was that she wasn't going to fight him over such a trivial thing.
“I'll be back for supper.” Ren said and checked on the spider inside the Dire Wolf Hooded Cloak, put it on, then grabbed several plates of food and left the room.

“By the gods.” Lusinia said and closed her eyes. “How can his emotions be so strong?”
“I don't know.” Frikara said as she started getting dressed. “It's like... he's the sun. We're just tiny little flowers that he shines on, and we're trying our best not to be blinded by his brilliance.”
“He's the sun?” Andrela asked and slipped on a dress. “Does that mean we can't live without him?”
Navruth smiled and put an arm around her after helping her button the dress. “Yes, Andrela. Even if we had somehow escaped the treasure room, I don't think we would have lasted long if it wasn't for him.”
A feeling of agreement entered the Aura, and they all nodded slightly.

Teepo dropped from the ceiling onto Ren's shoulder when he came out of the cabin. Ren slid a plate under Orimihr's door, then went into the cabin Princess was in. He walked over to her and knelt as she lifted a hoof for him. He took it and looked at her.
“Greetings, Princess.” Ren said. “I got back a little early last night, then I slept in to try and get enough sleep.”
You must look after yourself. Princess thought to him.
“Hello, Princess.” Teepo said and bent his front legs slightly to bow to her.
Greetings, Teepo.
Ren took out two plates of food and placed them before her. “I'll make something nice for supper for you.”
Thank you.
Ren turned to the pen that covered almost half of the room and saw there was still some webs and wood inside.

“Hi, Zetaya.” Ren said and stepped into it. The fire elemental hopped out of the fire and Ren caught it. It was now 2 feet long, and had grown 6 inches since the last time he'd seen it. “Whoa! You're getting bigger!”
It's color changed slightly and Ren rubbed his face on it's head stub.
“Do you want something different to eat?” Ren asked it, and it nodded. “Let's see what I have in inventory for you.” He looked through what he had, and didn't see a whole lot that the fire elemental could eat. “I've got a pile of cloth scraps.”
The head stub shook from side to side in a clear 'no' gesture.
“Then I'm not sure... oh! Hello.” Ren smiled when he found the cape that went with his Travelling Clothes. He had made it with the set of Travelling Clothes way back when he had a pile of Spider Silk Cloth to play with; but he never wore it. It just sat in his inventory and took up a slot that could be used for something else. Ren put the fire elemental down and took out the cape.
The fire elemental froze when it saw the large piece of Spider Silk cloth, and Ren chuckled.
“I'm tempted to give you the whole thing, just from that reaction.” Ren said, and the fire elemental let it's chest burn bright with white flames, and Ren nodded slightly. “Don't try to eat it all at once, okay?”
The head stub nodded, and Ren laid the strong silky cloth on the floor of the pen, well away from the enchanted flames. The fire elemental kind of sat on it's back legs, then used it's front leg stubs to pull the end of the cape into itself.
Ren heard a small crackling fire, and he knew the fire elemental really liked having such a large treat.
“I'll leave you to it.” Ren said, pat it's head stub gently, and stepped out of the pen. He pat Riley and Stacy next, and went to the door. “I'll see you all again tonight.” Ren said and left. On his way down to the cargo hold of the ship, Ren finally had a chance to check his missed notifications. A couple of them were messages from Lara, the Sage of Ages.
| Lara: | Hi, Ren. I just wanted you to know that I talked to the Ambassador for the giant refugees, and she's making caravans to deliver the weekly supplies and food. | ||
| Lara: | She was pretty angry at the little people for kicking you out, too. (winky face) | ||
