Chapter 262 - Crafting Galore
Ren stored the toy boat he'd made and looked at the remnants of the other one. He opened a drawer in the workbench and put the pieces inside. He was tempted to store them as well, but since he'd cut it apart to examine it, it's usefulness was pretty much done.
Ren's next task was to make a copy of the toy boat out of metal. He took out the paving stone he'd used for making the spring coil, and used his chisel to dig out molds for all of the gears and things he'd just made out of wood. He only needed to make the main mechanical parts out of metal, though. The rest of the boat could be made out of wood.
Once the mold was done, he filled it with molten metal, and absorbed the heat from all of the parts except for the metal to be used as the coil spring. He did the fold and re-heat trick with the coil spring several times to make it stronger, but that wasn't necessary for the gears. They couldn't be folded and then put back into the gear shape without re-melting the metal, and that would defeat the purpose of folding it in the first place. Ren popped the parts out of the molds and made the hull of the boat out of wood.
