Chapter 183 - Will That Work?
“I'd like to register another ritual.” Ren said.
“What else would you like to do to thank women?” The female dwarf grinned.
“Now I'm tempted to do that.” He said, and laughed. “What I want to do, is this...” He explained what he wanted, and she stared at him.
“You're joking!” She said. “You want it to be a ritual that you can give someone a gift, and not have it mean anything besides just a gift?”
Ren nodded slightly, and she shook her head.
“I'll file it, but you're going to cause an uproar the first time you use it.”
Ren smiled, filled out the form and handed it to her. She filed it, and came back to the desk.
“Is there anything else I can help you mess everything up with?” She said, and laughed.
“I know there's no way to stop myself from being kicked out of the Dwarven Kingdom.” Ren said, and the female dwarf nodded slightly. “But I was wondering... since I own land, and I'm a Lord... do I need an invitation to come back to visit or tend to my own land?”
The female dwarf's mouth dropped open. “I... I don't know.”
“Wait.” Ren said. “You're the General Information clerk, and you don't know?”
“Something like this hasn't come up before.” She said, and stood up. “Hold on. I'll check a few things.”
Ren stood there and looked around. I'm tempted to just rummage through all of this stuff, just to see what's here.
“She wouldn't be too happy about that, I don't think.” Teepo said.
Agreed.
A few minutes later, she came back with a giant book in her hands. It was nearly 2 feet square, and nearly a foot thick. She plunked it down on her desk, and Ren felt the vibrations through the floor.
“I could have carried that for you.” Ren said.
“Go ahead.” She said and grinned. Ren tried to grab it, and his hand slipped through it as if it wasn't there.
“No way!” He exclaimed.
The female dwarf laughed. “Only I am allowed to touch the records in here.”
“That's pretty cool.” Ren said. “You don't have to worry about anyone stealing anything from you.”
She nodded, opened the book, and started flipping pages. She got about two-thirds of the way through, and Ren was a bit surprised that she could read so fast.
“Here we go.” She said, and read the passage out loud. “Any and all lands contained within the Dwarven Kingdom, despite the claimed owner of said land, are to be considered Dwarven Kingdom land in all regards, intents, and purposes.”
“Damn.” Ren said. “I'd hoped that having my own portal on my own land would let me come back without an invitation.”
“You're out of luck on both counts, unfortunately.” The female dwarf picked up a piece of parchment and handed it to him. “This was delivered here this morning.”
Ren read it, and sighed.
