Mythran's Master Of All

Chapter 143 - Send In The Troops

There was a loud banging on the gate, that sounded like metal on metal. Ren ran out and Teepo flew up to see.

“It's Croggart, Ren!” Teepo said, then chittered in laughter. “He's using one of the guards to knock on the gate.”

Ren snorted a laugh and opened it.

“Hey, Croggart.” Ren said. “You can put...” He looked to see who it was. “...Broxor down.”

Croggart dropped Broxor to his feet with a scowl. “I ran all this way to see you, and the fool said that he wasn't going to bother you.”

Ren chuckled. “I told them to not let anyone in.”

“That doesn't mean they shouldn't tell you someone is here.”

Ren nodded. “You're right.” He took out 2 stone bricks and enchanted them at the same time with a quadruple glyph of the Dwarf rune: Speak. He made a small holder for it out of wood, and nailed it to the outside wall where the guards stand.

“It's a Sending Stone. Just touch it and speak, and we'll hear it in the house.” Ren said to Broxor. Croggart and Broxor stood there and stared at Ren.

“What?” Ren asked.

“You just made a Sending Stone.” Broxor said. “It takes days for the mages to make a pair.”

Ren looked at him. “You know some mages?”

Broxor nodded. “My sister and her husband. They're both mages for the Council.” He said. “It took them months to make connections for all the House Lords to the Council Chamber.”

Croggart scowled. “We're wasting time!” He said. “I went to the Garrison to talk to my brother again, and saw a Battalion of troops marching double-time.”

Ren's eyes widened. “They didn't!”

Croggart nodded. “I asked one of the lead soldiers, and they said they were marching for House Neram.”

Ren shook his head. “They won't have an easy time trying to take me.” He turned to Broxor. “Get everyone from the houses to come here to the House, and have the other guards meet me in the courtyard.”

“Yes, sir.” Broxor said, and took off running.

“Where's your sister?” Ren asked Croggart.

“In the house next to Golir and his wife.”

“Get her back here.” Ren said. “How long do I have?”

“Maybe an hour.” He said. “They might take a break.”

Ren frowned. “That might be enough time... if I hurry.”

He went into the house and dropped off the sending stone, then told Nathalia and her mother what was going on. He ran to his workshop next and told Dorcot what was going on. Ren smelted up some ore and took out several springy trees. He stirred the metal quickly, then divided up the trees for what he needed. He opened up Clint's bow bracer recipe and made a mold on the floor for 2 of them, nearly 4 times the size. He changed the trigger to the back instead of being held in the palm, and expanded the capacity to hold a hundred 1 foot long bolts. He added a standing mount and a shield to guard the shooter, and poured the molds.
