Chapter 79 - Can You Cook?
Ren closed Clint's message and looked at his hand. Now's as good a time as any. Ren opened the Business menu and searched. Healing... healing... ah, injuries. Ren clicked it and entered 'minor injury (cut across hand), may require major healing, no rush', and pushed enter.
“I wonder how long...” Ren started to say when there was a knock on the door. He walked over and opened it, to see a young healer standing there.
“Is someone injured?” He asked, and seemed a bit nervous.
Ren held up his blood soaked bandage and the healer's face drained of blood and looked like he was going to faint.
“I take it you're a trainee?” Ren asked.
The healer nodded. “Yes, sir.”
“Come in.” Ren stepped back, ushered the healer inside, and shut the door.
The healer looked around and saw that it was mostly just open space, except for the anvil and forge, 2 work benches, and a backpack hanging on the opposite wall.
“This... is a nice place you have here.” The healer said.
Ren laughed. “Yes, it is. I haven't had a chance to make any more furniture, though. Just a second.” Ren said and went upstairs to the third floor and put a comfy chair into inventory. He went back downstairs to the waiting healer. “What's your name?” He asked and pulled out the chair for the healer to sit on.
The healer stared at the chair and Ren motioned for him to sit. “Ah... it's Percy, sir.” He said and sat. “Say, that's really comfy.”
Ren smiled. “Well, Healer Percy... I've got a minor wound on my hand, but I'll need major healing internally.”
Percy's eyes widened at that. “I've never heard of anything like that before.”
Ren smiled. “I'm an Adventurer.”
Percy looked at Ren. “So?”
Ren nodded. He's not an NPC then. “Trust me, I need lots of mana.”
Percy shrugged. “Whatever you say, sir.”
Ren undid his makeshift bandage and held his hand out for Percy to look at, who swooned at the slash across Ren's palm. “W-what did you do? Cut yourself with a knife?”
Ren nodded. “That's exactly what I did.”
Percy shook his head and used Minor Healing on it. It took about 10 minutes, but Ren's hand didn't even have a mark on it afterwards.
“Thanks.” Ren said. “How's your mana holding up?”
Percy looked at his Mana bar and sighed. “It's about half gone.”
“You're just starting this class, aren't you?” Ren asked.
Percy nodded. “I didn't like any of the other professions.”
Ren lifted an eyebrow. “Why not?”
“I'm not into the whole fighting thing, but I like helping people. I thought if I put my mind to it, that I could do it.”
“Not liking the sight of blood might make this a bad choice of a job for you.” Ren said.
“How did you...” Percy tried to say and then stopped. “Of course you noticed. How long have you played?”
Ren shook his head. “I don't really remember anymore. There's 4 days in here while only one happens in real life. I've crossed in and out so many times that it's all just jumbled together.”
Percy looked at Ren like he was crazy, and Ren laughed.
“Yeah, that sounds kinda nuts. If I looked at the logs, I'm sure I can find out the day I started, but it doesn't really matter.”
“What level are you?” Percy asked.
Ren smiled. “That doesn't matter, either. All I'm doing is having fun and enjoying myself.” Ren said and took out a Mana potion.
Percy's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. “You have Mana potions?!?”
Ren handed it over. “Only a few.” He said. “Just drink a little bit at a time, until it fills your Mana bar.”
Percy sipped it, and 2 sips later, he nodded.
“Activate your Major Healing ability, please.” Ren said and held his hand out again.
Percy shrugged and activated his 'once a day' Major Healing ability, and watched as his Mana bar fell drastically. “How are you doing that?” Percy asked as Ren's body absorbed it all.
Ren chuckled and shook his head. “Keep drinking.”
Percy drank the Mana potion slowly, keeping his Mana bar at an even spot, and Ren absorbed the Mana pouring into him, and watched as his Mana Pool filled up. When it was finally full, he had Percy finish the potion and Ren took the bottle back.
“I can't believe you took all of that! How hurt were you? How are you walking around?” Percy said.
“I was asked that last question before. The answer is still the same. With my legs.” Ren said and laughed.
Percy shook his head. “You're a strange one, sir.”
You're not the only one to think that. Ren thought and smiled. “How much do I owe you?”
“The base price for minor healing is a silver. A major is usually 20 to 50 silver, depending on how bad the wound is.”
Ren handed over a gold coin and Percy's eyes bulged again.
“S-sir! This is way too much! I'm only an entry level healer!” Percy exclaimed.
Ren put a hand on Percy's shoulder. “You came over right away, even though I said there was no rush... and I assume that you only get to keep a small portion of the fee, right?”
Percy nodded.
“Then consider the rest as a tip.”
