After waiting for a while, and deciding that Lex’s situation was stable, both Celeste and I were immediately relieved. Honestly, this whole thing had been one big gamble, so it would not have surprised me if everything blew up in my face. The theories behind it were all solid, and there was no real reason why I should have failed other than unknown variables. But, given past performance, unknown variables are a constant problem.
