In the stressful atmosphere of medical school, Diana had begun to question her sanity.
Was she so distressed that she was hallucinating? Was she taking morphine even when she was not in pain? She had questioned herself under the disappointed gazes of the same professors and doctors who used to praise her.
In the end, as it turned out, her years of efforts went in vain because her mother could not stand it any longer and she handed a hefty amount of donation to those people.

They will keep your addiction a secret and no one will know that you were suspended,’ she told her like she was doing her a favor when she was the one who schemed against her and replaced her normal cold pills with morphine. Everything was a plot, ’I want you to be proficient in business just like your sister.’
And as if it was a royal decree, she was confined to the home as her business classes started with private tutors so that she could get a business degree.
And that was the first time Diana had felt like her mother... would never be redeemed. The first time she felt the hope for that woman dimming inside her heart.
But she was helpless. And she never had the resources or strength to go against Alice Chen.
If not for Angel then she might have still been living there and enduring it...

Diana did not realize when Maxim had approached her as he tapped on her shoulders to snap her out of her daze.
She pressed her hands on his chest and pushed him away from herself. Her force was not enough to budge him but since he was not on guard, he staggered a step back, ’’I am not playing games, Warner,’’ her eyes deepened, ’’If I want to do something, I do it and I give it my all. Working here is not something that I am doing out of boredom.’’
