Chapter 26: Carp Toad
After leaving the great hall, the young Flagbearer silently followed Elder Roy’s footsteps.
The sun shone high in the sky, giving off its light, which provided no warmth; it seemed as if it were painted in the sky.
The few birds perched on the leafless trees, whistling unique melodies. The wind blew the flowers in the mansion’s gardens.
On the stone paths outside the mansion, a small group of six people could be seen heading to the training ground.
When they arrived at the training camp, the first thing they saw was a medium-sized tent shaped like a dark green Bufo bufo toad, with its mouth open as a door.
It was a storage-type Zu, called Zu Carp Toad. It was widely used in wars because it was practical and very easy to feed; it only needed a large number of flies, and it was only rank 8.
Before entering the Carp Toad, Old Man Roy said without turning around, "You guys wait here. I’ll call you when you can come in."
Soren, Jenna, Lyra, Jasper, and Kael remained where they were without exchanging a single word, waiting to be called.
There was palpable tension in the air as they glanced sideways at Kael, who remained indifferent to them. This only caused their anger and hatred to grow like a forest fire: slow, but dangerous.
The minutes passed as snow fell softly on the training ground, and the cold breeze hit their bodies, making them shiver slightly.
