The Retired Young Mercenary Is Secretly a Billionaire

Chapter 429: The dream!!

The Atelier had closed for the day.

The final customers had already left, the doors were locked, and most of the lights near the entrance had been dimmed.

But the restaurant wasn’t empty.

After finishing the cleanup, the entire staff had gathered in the central dining area.

Chefs.

Waiters.

Kitchen assistants.

Cleaning staff.

Security personnel.

Delivery coordinators.

Everyone who had become part of The Atelier since its opening.

Tables had been pushed slightly aside to create more room.

Hope and Asher had immediately decided that an empty restaurant meant the dining hall had officially become their playground.

"Don’t run near the tables!"

Daniel called.

"We aren’t!"

Hope shouted back while doing exactly that.

Asher followed behind her.

Miles watched them race past.

"They definitely aren’t."

Chloe covered her mouth and laughed.

At the center of the room, Monica looked toward Miles.

"Boss."

Miles raised an eyebrow.

"Yes?"

"Say it."

Miles immediately shook his head.

"No."

Monica stared.

"Why not?"

Miles looked toward Elena and Daniel.

"They should do it."

Daniel blinked.

"Us?"

"Yes."

Miles smiled.

"This is your restaurant."

Chloe nodded enthusiastically.

"Come on, Father."

Daniel looked toward Elena.

Then smiled.

"Fine."

He picked up a bottle from the nearby table and poured a little wine into a glass.

Then handed it toward Elena.

She stared at him.

"Me?"

Timothy immediately answered,

"Yes."

Elena looked around.

"Why me?"

Daniel smiled.

"Because you’re the chef."

Timothy nodded.

"And because this place began with your dream."

Daniel gently pushed the glass into her hand.

"Go ahead."

"Tell your staff the news."

The staff had already become curious.

One of the senior chefs finally laughed.

"Chef, you’re making us nervous now."

Another waiter called,

"Please tell us."

"What’s the good news?"

Hope suddenly stopped running.

She turned toward everyone.

"We are going to the beach!"

Silence.

One waiter blinked.

"The beach?"

Elena immediately laughed.

Miles covered his face.

Chloe called toward the twins.

"Come here, you two."

Hope and Asher ran back.

Chloe placed them beside Elena.

"Cheer for Mom properly."

Asher immediately raised his empty hand.

"Mama, you can do it!"

Hope copied him.

"Yes!"

Then she looked around.

"Where is our glass?"

Monica was already prepared.

She handed both of them smaller glasses filled with fresh mango shake.

"Here."

Asher’s eyes brightened.

"Can I drink it now?"

Hope immediately stopped him.

"No."

She looked toward Elena.

"Wait until Mom raises her glass."

Miles stared at the twins.

"Who is teaching them adult things?"

His eyes slowly moved toward Timothy.

Timothy immediately raised both hands.

"Hey."

"Don’t look at me."

Chloe laughed.

Then looked toward Elena.

"Mom."

"Please."

Everyone slowly became quiet.

Elena stood in front of them with the glass in her hand.

For a moment...

She didn’t speak.

She simply looked around.

At the staff.

At Daniel.

At Timothy.

At her children.

At Miles.

At Chloe.

At Hope and Asher standing proudly beside her.

So many familiar faces.

Excited faces.

Happy faces.

Faces that had worked beside her from the first day The Atelier opened its doors.

Elena smiled.

"When I was young..."

She looked toward the kitchen entrance.

"I always had one dream."

The hall became completely quiet.

"I wanted to open a small restaurant."

Her smile softened.

"Nothing huge."

"Nothing luxurious."

"Just a small place where I could cook."

"Where people could sit with their families..."

"...eat something warm..."

"...and leave with a smile."

Several staff members smiled.

Elena continued,

"People often ask me where I learned to cook."

"Which culinary school I attended."

She gave a small laugh.

"The truth is..."

"I never attended one."

The room remained silent.

"My mother died when my elder brother and I were still children."

The happiness in Elena’s expression became softer.

More distant.

"She was diagnosed with an illness."

"She knew..."

Her voice slowed slightly.

"...that she wasn’t going to survive."

Miles quietly looked toward his mother.

Elena continued,

"And she wanted to leave something behind for her children."

"Something that could still make us happy after she was gone."

She looked down at her glass.

"Her cooking."

A few members of the kitchen staff lowered their eyes.

Elena smiled faintly.

"Food was always something special in our house."

"My mother cooked with love."

"She fed us with her own hands."

"I still remember..."

Elena laughed softly.

"...sitting beside her while she removed every tiny bone from my fish because I was too impatient to do it myself."

Hope looked up at her mother.

Elena continued,

"She would separate everything carefully..."

"...then feed me."

Her eyes became slightly wet.

"And somehow..."

"I still remember the taste."

She smiled.

"Maybe it wasn’t because the food was extraordinary."

"Maybe it was because she was the one feeding me."

Nobody interrupted.

"My hands were too small back then."

"I couldn’t properly hold a knife."

"But I desperately wanted to learn her cooking."

Elena looked toward the kitchen.

"During her final days, she taught everything she knew to our family cook."

"Every recipe."

"Every small detail."

"How much spice."

"How long something should simmer."

"Which ingredients could never be replaced."

"She wanted to make sure her children would never completely lose the taste of home."

Elena slowly looked toward the chefs standing before her.

"Years later..."

"I learned those recipes from that same family cook."

Her smile grew.

"And today..."

"I’ve taught many of them to all of you."

Several chefs looked at each other.

One of them smiled proudly.

Elena continued,

"My mother never had the chance to see this restaurant."

"But every day..."

"People come here."

"Families sit together."

"Children eat."

"Parents talk."

"Friends laugh."

She took a quiet breath.

"And her recipes are still bringing smiles to people."

One of the senior chefs lowered his head respectfully.

Elena’s voice softened.

"I’m very grateful for that."

For a few seconds...

Nobody spoke.

Then Elena continued.

"There was another person who became part of this dream."

Daniel looked toward her.

Elena smiled.

"At one of the most difficult times in my life..."

"I started working at an ice cream shop here in Star Harbor."

A few older local employees immediately recognized what she was talking about.

"The shop closed years ago."

"But some people in this city probably still remember it."

She smiled faintly at the memory.

"I was working long shifts."

"I was tired."

"I was lonely."

"My boss was a very kind woman."

"She always praised me for working hard."

"But more importantly..."

"She talked to me."

"Sometimes about nothing."

"Sometimes about life."

"She made sure I didn’t feel completely alone."

Elena looked toward Daniel.

"She was probably the first person who made me seriously think..."

"’Maybe I can open my own restaurant someday.’"

Her smile faded slightly.

"When she decided to close her business, I was sad."

"But even after closing..."

"She gave me three months of salary in advance."

Daniel smiled.

Elena continued,

"I used that money to buy a suit."

Miles quietly smiled.

"I wore that suit to a corporate job interview."

"And somehow..."

She looked toward Daniel.

"...I got the job."

Daniel gave her a warm smile.

"And there..."

"I met him."

Several staff members immediately turned toward Daniel.

He laughed quietly.

Elena continued,

"I found someone who supported me when I needed it most."

"We got together."

"We married."

She looked toward Hope and Asher.

"And eventually..."

"...we had these two."

Hope immediately smiled proudly.

Asher moved closer to Elena.

She gently placed one hand on his head.

"Daniel always said..."

"’One day, we’ll open your restaurant.’"

Elena looked toward her husband.

"His dream became fulfilling mine."

Daniel didn’t say anything.

He only smiled.

"We started saving."

"Little by little."

"Month after month."

Elena paused.

Then her voice became quieter.

"But life doesn’t always follow the plans we make."

Miles’ expression changed slightly.

"Daniel became ill."

The atmosphere shifted.

"I still remember that fear."

Elena’s hand tightened slightly around the glass.

"He wasn’t waking up."

"The doctors couldn’t tell me when he would."

Daniel looked down.

Elena continued,

"The bills grew."

"Debts grew."

"School expenses."

"Household expenses."

"Medical treatment."

"Everything."

She took a breath.

"And somewhere beneath all of that..."

"Our little dream disappeared."

Hope gently held her mother’s hand.

Elena looked down at her.

Then smiled.

"As a mother..."

"I couldn’t let my children go hungry."

She looked toward Daniel.

"And as a wife..."

"I would have done anything to keep my husband alive."

Her eyes began to shine.

"And just when I thought..."

"I didn’t have enough strength left..."

She looked toward Miles.

Everything in the room seemed to become still.

"My son came home."

Miles froze.

Chloe quietly reached for his hand.

Elena’s voice trembled slightly.

"My long-lost son."

"For seventeen years..."

"I prayed for one thing."

"Not money."

"Not success."

"Not even an easy life."

Her eyes filled.

"I just wanted to see my son once."

Miles’ fingers tightened around Chloe’s.

Elena smiled through the emotion.

"And then..."

"One day..."

"He stood in front of me again."

The restaurant staff remained completely silent.

"It was like God finally answered seventeen years of prayer."

Elena looked directly at Miles.

"He called me Mom again."

Miles lowered his eyes.

"He carried his little brother and sister."

Hope and Asher looked toward him.

"He helped Daniel return to his life."

Daniel gently rubbed his eyes.

"And somehow..."

Elena laughed softly through the tears.

"Everything changed so quickly."

"After years of pain..."

"Years of difficult nights..."

"Years of worrying about tomorrow..."

She looked around.

"Happiness came like a tsunami."

A few staff members laughed softly at the comparison.

Miles smiled too.

Elena continued,

"And then..."

"My family brought this dream back."

She looked toward The Atelier around them.

"This place."

"Our restaurant."

"The Atelier."

Applause slowly began.

Elena waited for it to quiet down.

"I got my husband beside me."

"My children."

"And then..."

She looked toward the staff.

"I got all of you."

Her eyes moved across everyone.

"The people in the kitchen."

"The people serving our guests."

"The cleaning staff who make this place beautiful every morning."

"Our security."

"Our delivery team."

"Everyone."

Her smile became brighter.

"You made this building feel warm."

"You helped me create a place where strangers could walk in..."

"...and taste the recipes my mother once made for her children."

Several staff members had tears in their eyes now.

Elena continued proudly,

"We haven’t even been open for very long."

"But somehow..."

"We already have more than eleven thousand positive reviews."

The hall erupted into applause.

Several staff members cheered.

Elena laughed.

"That’s because of you."

The applause grew louder.

"We’ve served ordinary families."

"Tourists."

"Businesspeople."

"Artists."

"Celebrities."

She smiled mischievously.

"We even served the President of Haven."

The employees cheered louder.

Miles laughed quietly.

Then Elena looked toward him.

"And..."

Her smile changed.

"My son found his soulmate back.... right here."

Everyone immediately looked toward Miles and Chloe.

Chloe’s face became slightly red.

Miles smiled and moved one arm around her.

A few employees laughed.

Someone applauded again.

Chloe looked toward Miles.

He whispered,

"Looks like we’re part of restaurant history now."

She gently nudged him.

Elena smiled at them.

Then finally...

She lifted the glass slightly.

"Now..."

"The news you’ve all been waiting for."

Every person in the hall became attentive.

Hope bounced excitedly beside her.

Elena continued,

"Because of the incredible success of The Atelier..."

"And because all of you made this place something much bigger than the small restaurant I once imagined..."

She paused.

"We have decided..."

"...to open a second branch of The Atelier in Star Harbor."

For half a second...

The staff didn’t react.

Then the meaning hit.

The dining hall exploded.

Applause.

Cheers.

Several chefs clapped each other on the shoulders.

Waiters looked at one another excitedly.

Someone shouted,

"Congratulations, Chef!"

Another voice followed.

"Second branch!"

Hope immediately shouted,

"At the beach!"

Everyone laughed.

Elena nodded.

"Yes."

She smiled.

"The new location is near the beach."

Another wave of cheering filled the restaurant.

"The property has already been acquired."

Miles smiled.

"Construction and renovation begin tomorrow."

The applause became even louder.

Elena looked around at all of them.

She raised her glass.

"To every member of this wonderful team."

Everyone began lifting their drinks.

"To my family..."

Elena looked toward Daniel.

Toward Miles.

Chloe.

Hope.

Asher.

Timothy.

Monica.

"...who never allowed my dream to disappear."

Her eyes became wet again.

Then she looked upward slightly.

"And..."

"To my mother."

The entire room became quiet for a moment.

Elena smiled.

"Her food finally reached farther than she ever imagined."

Daniel raised his glass.

"To her."

Miles lifted his.

Chloe followed.

Monica.

Timothy.

The twins proudly raised their mango shakes.

Soon every staff member had a glass lifted.

"Cheers!"

The sound echoed through The Atelier.

Glasses touched.

Applause followed.

Congratulations came from everywhere.

Elena was quickly surrounded by staff members.

"Congratulations, Chef."

"We’ll make the second one even better."

"Beachside Atelier!"

"Thank you for trusting us."

Daniel waited for the excitement to settle before stepping forward.

"Thank you, everyone."

The staff slowly turned toward him.

Daniel smiled.

"In the coming weeks..."

"We’re going to have a lot of new people joining us."

"New chefs."

"New servers."

"New cleaning teams."

"New staff across both locations."

He looked around.

"And I hope all of you will help us train them."

One of the chefs immediately replied,

"Of course."

Others nodded.

"We will."

"Definitely."

Daniel smiled.

"Good."

"Because The Atelier isn’t just expanding a business."

He looked toward Elena.

"We’re expanding the family."

The applause returned.

Timothy stood slightly behind everyone.

For a moment...

He simply closed his eyes.

The sound of laughter surrounded him.

His granddaughter and grandson were drinking mango shake like they had just won a competition.

His daughter-in-law stood among employees who adored her.

Daniel was smiling.

Miles had returned home.

The family he thought he had lost seventeen years ago...

Was growing.

Timothy opened his eyes.

A peaceful smile appeared.

Hope suddenly finished her drink.

"Done!"

Asher immediately drank the last of his too.

"Me too."

Monica stared.

"That was supposed to be a toast."

Hope looked confused.

"We toasted."

"And then drank it."

Miles laughed.

"She’s technically correct."

Chloe placed her half-finished juice down.

Miles did the same.

They walked toward Elena.

Miles stood beside his mother.

"Mom."

Elena turned.

He smiled warmly.

"You’re the best."

Chloe immediately hugged Elena’s other side.

"And the sweetest."

Elena laughed.

Monica stepped closer.

"The prettiest."

Elena looked overwhelmed.

"Don’t start flattering me now."

Timothy slowly approached them.

He looked around at everyone.

Then sighed contentedly.

"I’m glad I woke up from that long sleep."

Miles’ expression softened.

Timothy smiled.

"I think I could die peacefully now."

Daniel immediately turned.

"You’re not dying, Father."

Chloe looked horrified.

"Grandpa."

She took Timothy’s arm.

"You’re still so young."

Timothy stared at her.

"Young?"

Hope immediately joined.

"Yes."

Asher nodded seriously.

"You can still bake cookies."

Timothy laughed.

"See?"

He looked toward Daniel.

"The children understand me."

Daniel shook his head.

"Father, you spent years sleeping."

Timothy raised an eyebrow.

"Exactly."

He smiled.

"I’m well rested."

Everyone burst into laughter.

Even Elena couldn’t stop herself.

The restaurant that had been quiet after closing was suddenly louder than it had been during dinner service.

Children laughing.

Staff celebrating.

Glasses clinking.

And Elena stood in the middle of it all.

She looked toward the kitchen.

Then toward the people surrounding her.

A small restaurant.

That was all she had once wanted.

A place where her food could make someone smile.

Somehow...

That little dream had become this.

A family.

A home.

And now...

It was ready to grow and bring more smiles to the people.
