Chapter 398: He suspects her
They stayed in each other’s embrace, basking in the afterglow."It was the longest war ever. I hated being away." His voice seemed distant. Her ear was pressed against his chest listening to his periodic beats while hers were in chaos. He wasn’t exhausted in the slightest and could go on for longer
"We should be glad the war is over now. But it wasn’t your longest war, it was barely 2 months," she chimed at him. A soft smile was on her lips. Abrielle felt a bit of pride in her heart knowing she had helped him. Not only did she help facilitate the war coming to an end faster, but she also won the Flameworth family to their side.
She knew Cedric was going to start the battle for the throne any time soon, having another major family on his side would increase his advantage.
"That’s true but this was the first war I went to knowing someone was waiting for me. I never understood why Eris and Rudeus were restless at war until this time. For the first time, it felt like I had a home to go back to." He said, there was a pause like they both sank into their thoughts.
Her strawberry mixed with rose scent surrounded him. It felt like home, it was the scent of his home, something he hadn’t felt since birth.
He saw her as his home. Abrielle was quiet. She didn’t know if this would last forever. Maybe she found a new home here. It sounded sweet, but she knew things were about to go in flames soon, and this home might burn along with it. She closed her eyes; it was better not to say a thing. She did not want to ruin the moment.
Cedric sensed her hesitation, "Did you make any friends while I was gone?" He asked, something had been bothering him. Although it felt ridiculous, his gut feeling told him his reckless wife was involved in the war more than it meets the eye.
From Evelyn’s report, Abrielle suddenly became close friends with Fiona, and they exchanged letters frequently. The same Fiona who suddenly had the urge to investigate her in-laws and ended up finding a secret. It felt too much of a coincidence.
"I did make a few more friends, nothing special. Unlike you, I can make friends." She teased him. He chuckled at her taunt. .
