Chapter 320: Child’s play
Can the devil ever bring good news? All the girls doubted this possibility.
The cellar barely had any sunlight during the day due to how buried it was. There were small holes too small to be called a window at the top on the high walls that let in slanting sun rays into this dark cellar that needed torches to be lit during the day.
Penny walked to the middle of the cellar, her eyes darting around every girl, taking in their reaction. She put her hands together and then started to talk in a sing-song voice.
"My dear fine ladies, I am sure most of you know what time of the year we have gotten to once again. In a few days, we will be hosting a fun game of hide and seek. For an entire night, you will be allowed to see the outside. Isn’t that fun?" She chimed, a wide grin on her face. All the girls’ faces were dead and pale hearing her. It even made her more elated to know that they were all informed.
No one was going to do anything stupid. "This is the part where you are meant to clap your hands." She chimed. Jake groaned; he was a monster with his large build. Abrielle could not help but imagine how Camilla wasn’t scared of him crushing her while they were doing their business.
The girls all started to clap their hands reluctantly. It was obvious they lacked the enthusiasm she had expected from them; she didn’t care, regardless.
"So to prepare for the night, that morning, you will all be having the princess treatment, a proper hot bathtub, scented oils, and hair treatment. You get to choose a dress of your choice and a grand lunch. I know you must all be excited." Penny was super excited about culling. Why won’t she when they made a fortune during each one?
Before, it was held once a year, but due to the fortune it was bringing in, they had to make it twice a year.
"I guess you have no questions then but before I leave. I heard whispers that someone had been loitering around the mansion. Just don’t do anything stupid. See you around girls." She chimed then glanced at Jake. Her heels clicked as she made her way out of the room towards the door
Jake didn’t leave immediately. His eyes slowly marked them, but they lingered a bit longer on Abrielle compared to the others. The princess didn’t like the feeling
The door banged against the wall, and finally, they left. Everyone was finally relieved as soon as they were gone but one thought lingered. Camilla has to carry out her part of the plan.
The day was over, the temperature dropped towards the night. Soon, the bell rang. It was feeding time. Tonight was different, Jake was the one that brought the food. It was a duty underneath him but he still did it.
