Chapter 287: Communication barrier
Her hands gripped the edge of her long sleeves, he was back. It has been days since the last they spoke although she saw him yesterday. She felt nervous, guilty and drained.
Maybe she could have just said everything was a misunderstanding, but those words were stuck in her throat. It didn’t seem that easy.
She slowly turned around and her eyes fell on him. He was still standing at the entrance dressed rather dignified like a prince. A black mask on his face, which had intricate gold lines that matched his dark-themed clothes of a similar colour scheme. He truly took his job as a villain seriously.
That was a funny way to think about it, "I guess we are still doing the staring game, or you are still offended I beat out your lover from the duel." Cedric sneered, unable to stand the silence. A weak smile grew on her face, she almost forgot he was a jerk.
"Congratulations on winning the duel." Abrielle congratulated him first. Her expression was still serene.
"That’s not unexpected," Cedric commented, Abrielle had no idea what he meant. "I don’t understand your sentiment; it is my duty to congratulate my husband, who has been away for days fighting hard. I am glad you finished the duel without a single scratch."
Cedric laughed. At this point, she was sure something was wrong with his head. His gaze went back to her, the biggest puzzle ever. He was shocked she seemed not to remember a thing from last night’s episode.
"You truly don’t care about anything that happened these past few days or have any explanation whatsoever. I just need an explanation, even if it is a lie. Tell me an excuse, Abrielle." Cedric demanded leaving Abrielle speechless. She went silent, her eyes averting from Cedric. She had a lot of things she could not speak about.
"I already told you the truth. There is nothing to be worried about. Looks might be deceptive." It was not far from the truth but Cedric needed something more reliable.
