The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband

Chapter 283: Warning bells

Cedric has gone missing after the most bizarre encounter with Callista. Lucian nor Callista had an idea where the prince could be. This news was kept under the covers and even Cedric’s men in the castle didn’t make a fuss about it because they knew their master was not someone that could be easily taken advantage of.

Away from the palace in the seaside castle, Abrielle didn’t have an inkling of what was happening. She could not sleep. She sat across the fireplace in her private living room, a white kitten on her lap, and she patted it carefully.

Yuki purred softly, enjoying the princess’s touch across its fur. Yuki was a strange cat; it was different from Hazel’s old cat, which was prideful. Yuki, on the other hand, was a bit clingy for cats.

The door behind Abrielle was pushed. Abrielle’s eyes were still stuck on the fire, "Your Highness," she heard Zoltana’s calm voice behind her.

"Is everything ready?" The princess asked Zoltana before she could finish her statement. Zoltana who was dressed in a casual outfit and a brown cloak. Her hair was a bit damp before it was drizzling outside, She had left the castle to run some errands for the princess and just arrived. "Yes, I have made enquiries as you have requested." The maid answered, her head slightly bowed. Abrielle sighed like a weight was lifted off her shoulders.

"I guess things are going well at least," Abrielle answered, her eyes trailing from the fireplace to the window where soft pit-pat sounds could be heard as the rain splashed against the glass. It wasn’t heavy, just a light shower.

"I wonder if it will still rain tomorrow," she muttered, her mind getting lost as she thought about the rose duel.

"I don’t think we will have a heavy downpour tomorrow," Zoltana answered, watching Abrielle’s side profile. The sky rumbled a bit.

The princess didn’t say anything, the sounds of the crackling firewood under the flames mixed with Yuki’s occasional purrs were mixed with the rain sounds. It was a peaceful night on the surface but Abrielle’s heart was not.
