Chapter 257: A silent reminder
"I am back, Your Highness, and it seems like you have guests," Evelyn said as she approached the door. Her eyes were darting between Abrielle and Callista. Unease in her gaze
"Apparently, I was just leaving; it was nice talking to you, Princess Abrielle." Callista used the opportunity to flee the room before Abrielle could say a word.
Evelyn watched the priestess run like being chased by a monster. She knew she was in no place to question the princess, so she shrugged off and approached the princess, who was still seated by the fireplace.
"I hope she didn’t cause any trouble," Evelyn mentioned placing the tray on the small table. Abrielle shook her head, placing the book aside.
"Nothing worth attention," Abrielle answered, accepting the cup of warm tea sweetened with cream and sugar. She was feeling a bit cold tonight.
She took a slow sip before glancing at Evelyn, who was preparing the snacks. "I heard Cedric disappeared after his duel," Abrielle mentioned. There was a subtle change; Evelyn’s shoulder was going stiff.
Evelyn was a bit taken aback, but she quickly regained her composure. "It’s nothing to worry about. The prince is out on some official matters." Evelyn explained taking a step back. Abrielle could sense she was still trying to hide something.
"Official matters," Abrielle repeated, sounding sceptical. "Yes, unfortunately, I can’t reveal the details." Evelyn insisted on keeping her lips shut.
"Have there been any words from my mother?" Abrielle asked, trying to change the topic.
