Chapter 238: She is not jealous
The candles flickered lightly, illuminating the dark hallway; the supposed door to Cedric’s room was open. A familiar voice Abrielle recognized as Callista’s echoing. She seemed to be concerned about Cedric who decided on skipping out on the festivities.
"I am not in the mood to listen to any two-faced noble for now." His voice answered; light footsteps followed, and soon Callista’s image emerged from the door.
"Does this have anything to do with...". Callista was about to ask a question but was interrupted by Cedric’s groaning sound. She was facing the door and Abrielle could guess Cedric was standing at the entrance.
"I need to rest, work has been piling up lately." He answered and the Priestess finally relented. "Try to have a good night’s rest; I will send some herbal tea later to help with the stress." She suggested acting like the sweet Callista who was just filled with so much sweetness.
One of the reasons Cedric fell for her was the genuine kindness he showed her. She was not pretentious like everyone around him. Cedric mistook that kindness for love and grew obsessed with it. Callista was kind because she saw her past in him, a broken orphan, and felt she could help the gap.
"You don’t have to, I am honestly just fine and need a bit of rest." He tried to reject but Callista was never the one to accept a no.
"I will be back later." She stubbornly said she was among the few people that could argue with Cedric. Their interactions were sweet and just like how it was in the book. It left a bitter taste in Abrielle’s mouth who watched silently with her face scrunched up.
"You never listened," the prince sighed in defeat, making Callista smile sweetly, her eyes sparkling. "Someone has to look out for you. I can’t have my investigating partner fall sick." She chimed then closed the door. Callista was smiling sweetly, her eyes darted to the side where she saw Abrielle standing.
Her smile got wider, she nodded at the princess and left in the other direction. Abrielle sighed and then slowly approached the door; she knew nothing was going on between Cedric and Callista that was romantic.
