Chapter 229: Scared to her knees
Rebecca’s face went pale. It was a simple question, but it felt like she had heard something forbidden. "She isn’t the only noble born without magic. There are tons of them out there, or are you using it as an excuse to treat my daughter unfairly." Rebecca went into the defence mechanism immediately.
"There we are again, baseless accusations being thrown my way. I asked a simple question because I find it odd that someone from such a sacred bloodline is unable to wield magic ." Cedric remained calm as he watched Rebecca slowly lose it.
"It doesn’t make her any less of a Nightshade." Rebecca barked then her face cracked into a sad smile. "Now I can see, this is the reason why you neglect her because you feel she isn’t worth your attention." She laughed out, Cedric’s expression still remained unchanged
Rebecca was adamant about hiding the fact that Abrielle’s magic was sealed at birth and rather had her known as a talentless noble. It felt like she was hiding something greater.
"I never said anything related to that," he replied. Rebecca’s sharp amber eyes stared keenly at Cedric. She didn’t like the look in his eyes.
"I have ears, Cedric, and I have heard things relating to you and that priestess.." she changed the topic, causing the first priest to frown.
Rebecca still continued, "I don’t know what Abrielle saw in you. If you break my daughter I won’t stop to see you suffer the pain. I am not scared of you, Cedric Von Drakkar, even if you are rumoured to be a demon that curses this land." Rebecca declared her dislike for Cedric just multiplied.
The room seemed to have gotten darker with the lights fading away. Rebecca felt a pressure on her shoulders that made her knees weak. His eyes were still gold, but his presence got stronger. He had been deliberately toning down his presence out of his consideration for Abrielle, but when given an arm, she wanted it whole.
"You are not scared of me." He scoffed at her brave words. Cedric straightened up his back and then walked a few towards her. Rebecca was paralyzed in her seat and shrinking backwards. Why did it feel like a god of death was before her?
