Chapter 223: Insufferable brat
Rebecca watched her red angel standing gracefully waiting for her. She was glad she finally saw Abrielle again; she remembered the wedding and the drama that had occurred, which gave her a restless night, wondering why Abrielle did that.
But then her sharp eyes swept over the entrance once more, and her stomach twisted. Cedric wasn’t there. The bastard was not there. She let out a dry laugh that made Pierre’s skin crawl; he knew she was mad.
Rebecca’s lips thinned. "Where is your husband?" Her voice was calm, but Abrielle could hear the storm beneath it. She knew the kind of person her mother was. Rebecca didn’t give a damn that Cedric was the bloodlust demon or whatever. All she knew was the ungrateful jerk who never appreciated her angel.
Abrielle had expected this. She had spent the past few hours preparing her response, smoothing over any trace of nervousness. Her hands on the bouquet were sweaty. "He was called away for urgent matters, Mother. Royal affairs." Abrielle could barely shake under her mother’s gaze.
Rebecca narrowed her eyes. "Royal affairs." She repeated the words slowly as if tasting something bitter. "How convenient." she scoffed. "What did I say, Pierre?" She drawled.
Pierre stepped forward, placing a firm hand on his wife’s arm before she could launch into another episode. "Rebecca, we’ve travelled a long way. Let’s not start like this."
Rebecca inhaled sharply, forcing herself to stay composed. "Fine," she said, her tone clipped. "But we’ll discuss this later. Although I am starting to think about getting rid of that bast...."
Rebecca snorted her words, Getting cut off by the simultaneous glare of Abrielle and Pierre. How could she talk about killing Cedric in the open air?! "Be mindful of your words dear," Pierre whispered in her ears. His face twisted in disgust.
Abrielle didn’t hate the thought of them wanting to take care of Cedric, but if they got involved, it might cost their lives.
Rebecca drew a long breath to calm herself. Her amber eyes softened slightly as she reached out, cupping Abrielle’s cheek. "You look pale, my love. Have you been eating properly? You should have sent for me the moment you weren’t well." she said Sweetly.
"I’m fine, Mother," Abrielle reassured her with a gentle smile. Her heart melted under the loving gaze of her mother. But Rebecca wasn’t convinced. She could see the exhaustion hidden beneath her daughter’s carefully composed expression.
The queen of the Nightshade family wasn’t one to be fooled. And if Cedric thought he could continue to ignore his wife, he would soon learn otherwise.
