Chapter 207: A misunderstanding
The doors swung open, Abrielle heard them as they opened but she didn’t bother turning towards the castle and focused on her tea while reading a book. It was a novel she unexpectedly stumbled upon in the library and has been endorsed in it for days now.
She heard footsteps rushing towards her and was a bit distracted, wondering if there was urgent news from the castle. Who knows, maybe the goddess has mercy after seeing her suffering and decides to give her a break by letting Cedric unexpectedly die during his trip.
Cedric, too long, strides down the pathway lined with plants. The snow had barely completely melted away, but the plants were now lush and soon would be covered with blooming flowers.
The garden smelled like wet soil and herbs. His jaw was clenched; he had suppressed his rage and tirelessly travelled on horseback for a week, only resting when the horses were about to collapse from exhaustion and to take light meals.
That was how he was able to cut his journey to just a week; after Cedric received Evelyn’s letter, he could not sit out anymore and finished all his work that was meant to take an extra week in two days and left Vesper at dusk.
He boarded the first boat out before the royal ship was ready, not caring it was below his status, and the rest of the journey was done on horseback. 4 days on the water and barely 3 on land.
Cedric stopped his anger quickly disappearing when he saw her frail back. What has happened? That was the first question he asked himself. Seeing how weak she was looking he forgot all his grievances and was just deeply concerned about her health.
Elias has successfully caught up with the prince. He was nervous and hoping to stop the fight; instead, he was welcomed with an unexpected sight. Cedric blankly watched Abrielle’s back as she took her tea.
To be honest, a part of Cedric knew the reason he rushed his trip back was because of her health. He was disturbed hearing how Alfonso was growing on her due to her frail health. He wasn’t expecting her to look this weak, worse, even after the miscarriage.
