Chapter 187: Silent longing
She was sleeping peacefully with soft snores leaving her lips. It was a beautiful sight; although Cedric enjoyed her chatter and glare, he still enjoyed moments like this.
The voices were wrong, and a smile graced his lips. Although he might never understand her, one thing he knew for sure she truly didn’t like was the fact he said he didn’t want her having children for him.
That, of course, might have caused a misunderstanding between them, but it revealed one fact: she secretly wanted children. His children.
He just laid on the bed opposite her, watching her sleep; he didn’t want to blink as this might be the last time he saw her sleep for weeks to come. His hands reached out for her ears to tuck a stray strand of hair.
"Why can’t we bridge the distance between us?" He asked again knowing she wasn’t hearing him. She shook in her sleep then her lips slightly parted. It looked adorable Cedric could not help but laugh.
How can someone who looks this fragile and adorable want someone dead? He wondered. She was making him lose his mind every second and she did not know. The voices told him to blame her for Callista’s injuries, which was crazy when he considered it.
If he had left the city earlier, that would have put her in greater danger; he didn’t want to imagine a scenario where he gets separated from her during the storm or worse if she was alone in the case he had left her to travel alone.
She would have gone through the entire miscarriage on her own. He knew his actions were insensitive when he left her in the temple to search for the storm victims but he could not stop himself from going. It was not an excuse. It felt like the right thing, but it still felt wrong.
A short sigh escaped his lips, and he crept closer to her to feel her warmth. She sensed his presence and snuggled towards him, placing her head against his chest. His smile grew wider
