Chapter 40: The Danbury Couple
Breakfast started with several dishes on the table, and the room was harmonious. The Danbury couple was trying to build a good relationship with the royal couple.
Cedric, surprisingly, was good at socializing, and he had a certain charisma around him when they conversed. Abrielle had thought Cedric was not a people person, but to her shock, he was handling everything quite well.
Despite being a vicious villain, the original Abrielle was not interested in politics, the same as Hazel, although when writing this book, she had to wrack her head. Those Chapters were the hardest for her to write.
Abrielle focused on her meal, and seldom chirped into the boring conversations. She could not help but wonder if nobles didn’t have better things to talk about besides trade and foreign politics. The annoying part was that she had to pretend like she was enjoying the conversation and smile whenever spoken to.
Keep up the perfect image of Prince Cedric’s wife, and that was not the worst. Cedric was acting like they were a loving couple, throwing compliments at her, which also made her cough out blood.
"It’s so wonderful to see how much you love each other. It reminds me of how I was with Fiona before we had children. Now, they are all she cares about." Rudeus said with a soft smile while glancing at Fiona. Finally changing the topic.
From their gaze, it was obvious they were a loving couple and not for a show like most marriages. Fiona’s face turned scarlet with a bright blush under her husband’s gaze. It was a beautiful sight but this show of affection made Abrielle feel like throwing up.
Cedric reached out for Abrielle’s hand to place a soft kiss on it while she was smiling sweetly at him. They look like an actual loving couple but they both knew what they truly felt for the other in their hearts. "I am glad the Duke of Vesper gave his daughter to me because she was the best thing that happened to me," Cedric said; his face was covered with a mask, but Abrielle was certain he was amused.
"That’s wonderful. We were at the wedding, but you left before the celebratory feast, so we weren’t able to give our blessings." The duchess said with a lovely smile. Abrielle’s face was getting stiff from smiling so much in one day.
"We had to leave early because of the long journey ahead," Cedric replied, which the noble couple understood because they didn’t stay long for the feast and left Vesper for Danbury that same night.
"By the way, when do you plan on having children? The earlier you start, the faster you can get rid of them." The duchess chuckled followed by her husband. For a weird reason, Abrielle’s face blushed because she knew they would not have any children.
She planned on killing this bastard and carrying his child was the last thing she wanted. Having Cedric’s child would ruin all her chances of ever getting married again after his death.
