Chapter 38: Morning after Khaos
The room was quiet, and the trembling had stopped because Cedric had single-handedly defeated a calamity. Under the golden light from the candles and crackling fireplace, the figure of two people could be spotted on the bed.
Cedric held Abrielle as he slowly slipped into a deep slumber because he had over-exerted himself while fighting the Khaos.
He wasn’t confident with his skills if he would be able to stop it earlier, but he just had to try. After the long battle, his first instinct, weirdly enough, was to see the face of his aggrieved wife.
To show her that her prayers failed and he didn’t die, and as expected, she was disappointed. Achieving his goal, his body slowly grew tired, and now he was at her mercy.
Abrielle watched Cedric sleep with his gold mask on and was tempted to pull it off but that might wake him up from sleep. "How are you alive? A Khoas is impossible to defeat single-handedly. You are not meant to be that strong." She muttered with her eyes on his dark locks.
Cedric was so vulnerable right now sleep could just kill him but yet she didn’t. As tempting as it may seem to end his life, she was smart enough to know if he died here, she would be the first suspect and would be killed for treason.
Time ticked as she was drawn deeper into her thoughts until she eventually slept by his side. It was the first time she had slept by a man’s side.
Her breaths were even indicating she was deeply asleep. Cedric’s lashes slowly flattered open to stare back at her face. At times he asked himself the question about what was also keeping him from killing her.
He could always kill her despite her political importance to him but yet he couldn’t. There was something in him that would let him kill her.
