Chapter 15: Wangyue Pavilion
At Wangyue Pavilion, one of the most luxurious establishments in Wei City. Only the wealthy and powerful could afford to dine here; common folk wouldn't even dare step inside. Li Yanchu could tell that Head Constable Wang was genuinely being considerate; just from the venue alone, it was clear that the invitation was sincere.
Led by the attendant, Li Yanchu was brought to private room number thirteen, a secluded single-room suite with excellent privacy, which was ideal for private discussions.
Wang Chongshan had arrived early, dressed in the elegant garb of a wealthy gentleman. Though still imposing, he now carried a hint of refined nobility.
“Daoist Master Yanchu, please, come in and have a seat!” Wang Chongshan greeted him warmly, a far cry from his usual stern demeanor in the yamen.
“You’re too generous, Head Constable,” Li Yanchu replied politely as he took his seat.
Once seated, Wang Chongshan raised a cup of wine. “Daoist Master Yanchu, this is Wangyue Pavilion’s Deer Fetus Wine. It invigorates the blood and replenishes qi.”
Li Yanchu drained it in one go. The wine was rich and mellow, and the moment it hit his throat, a wave of heat surged into his belly. His dantian warmed, and a pleasant qi spread through him.
“Excellent wine!” Li Yanchu praised.
“Come, eat! The chefs here at Wangyue Pavilion are top-notch. Their steamed live carp and Baihua chicken[1], in particular, are absolutely exquisite,” Wang said, making no mention of any business matters, simply introducing the dishes with enthusiasm.
Li Yanchu didn’t stand on ceremony and began eating heartily.
The two of them got along surprisingly well. When it came to socializing over drinks, Li Yanchu had already reached a masterful level. He effortlessly broke the ice with Wang Chongshan, and soon the two were talking like old friends.
