Chapter 267: The Guarding Beasts
Annalise picked on some movements and as she followed the direction of the sound, she found a group of servants entering the dining hall with the freshly prepared food and drinks. Even from this far, she was able to smell the rich aroma that quickly filled the air of the huge dining hall.
In no time, the table was loaded with mouth-watering foods and Annalise couldn’t keep her eyes to herself at all. It took a lot of effort on her part to stay put and pretend like her mouth wasn’t salivating to taste everything.
"Let’s dig in while we talk about all the stuff that has been going around lately." The Queen advised and everyone followed it as they all prepared a plate full of food for themselves.
The next few minutes were filled with the sound of cutlery and dishes coming in contact with each other as everyone focused on the food and no one talked at all, but this silence didn’t last long and ended soon enough.
"At this point, it’s pretty clear that whoever is behind all these attacks, they are actually aiming to break the wards of the Seelie Realm to unseal all the darkness sealed inside there. And we can probably think of a couple of reasons as their motive for them to go to such lengths just to unseal the darkness." Valerius was the first one to start talking about the main issue they had at hand.
"The more we have investigated about the Portal Hall incidents, the more it shows that they were after those powerful artifacts. If I have to put all these clues together, those artifacts surely have to do something with the breaking of the protection wards of the Seelie Realm." Damien also added his point as he looked up at his mother.
Annalise recalled all the information that she had recently collected and wondered just how much she could share without needing to explain too much. The only reason she was still hesitating about telling the Princes about the secrets of the castle and the attacks that she had recently unfolded, was that she still hadn’t solved the biggest mystery - why she was related to everything?
"Their motive is indeed very clear and I’m sure all these attacks are somehow a part of their plan. What we need to do now is to find out exactly who these people are and where they are hiding. Only then will we be able to find a way to stop them because even if we have strengthened the wards of the Seelie Realm, they still won’t last long if our enemy is fully prepared." The Queen spoke like the ruler that she was - calm, straightforward, and with conception.
"That’s the problem, we don’t know where to start our search from. All our constant attempts have turned up futile. We always end up at a dead end for some reason. Either our enemies are too good at clearing their trails or someone really powerful is protecting them." Kenric pointed out right before he took a spoonful of food and shoved it into his mouth.
This was one thing that Annalise too wanted to find out, the whereabouts of their enemies. However, the issue was - how?
