Chapter 139: Embers of Kenric’s Fire
Annalise snuggled closer into Kenric’s chest and felt the man tightening his arms around her as he pulled her even closer if that was even possible at the point considering their bodies were almost plastered against each other.
"Are you sure this place is safe? What if someone suddenly decides to come out of the Mer Court or someone has to go inside? What are we going to do then?" She couldn’t help but ask Kenric as she was once again worrying about their privacy. She was in no way looking forward to getting embarrassed by getting caught naked in the bed by some stranger.
Kenric smiled softly as he brushed her hair away from her temple and tucked them behind her ear before replying, "Stop worrying, Sparks. No one is going to stumble upon us." He didn’t clarify why he was so confident about his statement but at least, it did help her in calming down a little bit.
A comfortable silence took over them as they lay there in each other’s arms after the passionate lovemaking session. No matter how late at night it was already, neither of them seemed to be anywhere near falling asleep.
"It’s past three in the morning, you should get some sleep, Little bird," Kenric told Annalise as he brushed his fingers softly through her hair, making her eyes flutter as she found herself enjoying the sweet sensation.
Annalise slowly shook her head in the negative before she spoke, "I’m not going to see you in the morning, right?" She already knew the answer deep down in her heart but she still asked to hear it from him.
Kenric let out a small breath before he answered in a small voice, "Right, you will need to leave for the Mortal Realm in the morning with that Mer girl and those men from the Sky Castle but none of us brothers can accompany you as we have some other works to take care of in the meantime."
Annalise felt her heart drop at his reply even though she had already known that she won’t be getting to spend any time with them for the next couple of days considering they hadn’t come to meet her and had made her come to them and that too through a dream spell.
"Don’t be too disheartened. Though Valerius will be too busy for the next couple of days and I’ll need to stay at the Mer Court, Damien would head to you as soon as he will be done with his work. In the meantime, we all are expecting you to perform well and not make us worry about you." Kenric added as he pulled her chin up to make her look up at him.
"I won’t be able to even sense you." Annalise couldn’t help but state as she recalled how unnatural it felt to not have a connection with him.
The man placed a kiss on her forehead before he took hold of her hand and entangled their fingers before speaking, "Let me try something. It won’t be able to create a bond between us but you will be able to access me whenever you will follow the embers of my fire."
