The Veil of Darkness

Chapter 54: Accusations

"What are you doing?" Annalise asked the man who had her pinned against the bedroom door as soon as she stepped inside.

"Shouldn’t I be the one asking that question, Princess? What exactly are you trying to do?" Damien questioned back as he took another step closer to her, closing the remaining space left between their bodies.

They were almost pressed against each other at this point but the tension in the air was anything but sexual.

"I don’t know what you are talking about, My Lord," Annalise replied as she tried to step aside and walk away. However, Damien stopped her as he placed his hands against the door on either side of her shoulders, caging her between his arms and the door.

"Really? Then what’s with the dress? I never saw you wearing something like this before, then why did all of a sudden you end up wearing it today of all days?" He questioned, his voice coming out dangerously low.

"What does my dress has to do anything with you? I’m wearing it because Kenric asked me to. It has nothing to do with you." Annalise could finally see why Kenric was so sure that the dress would get Damien’s attention.

The man brought his face closer to hers, his warm breath fanning her temple as he spoke in a whispered tone, "You can’t even lie, Princess. Your eyes are telling me that this dress has everything to do with me and only me. Are you that desperate for my attention?"

His words were like a slap across her face, one that rang echoes in her ears. She hated to admit but his words successfully made her feel cheap. She had no idea what made Lord Damien turn this hostile toward her but she surely wasn’t liking this side of him.

"I’ll go and get changed." She finally muttered as she tried to push the man away and walk out of the room but of course, her plan didn’t work as Damien stopped her from moving away. His hands took hold of her upper arms as he pushed her back against the door and pressed his body against hers to stop her from moving away.

"It’s too late now, Princess. You wanted my attention, you have it now." His voice was low against her ear and as he brushed his nose into her hair, Annalise felt a shudder running down her body.

"I was planning to keep my distance from you, to keep myself from falling into the same trap as my brothers. But it seems like I won’t get to relax unless I’ll give the attention that you seek." His words showed no mercy to her.
