Chapter 43: Sweat, Tears, and Surprise
Velmora stopped moving. Her arms dropped limply, and tears streamed down her face—falling onto her chin, then dripping onto her chest, and slowly sliding down toward her V-line.
"What happened?" Nathan frowned, stepping back slightly while closely observing Velmora’s strange reaction.
Velmora’s head jerked in small, broken motions as she shook it slowly, then tilted it upward.
Her eyes opened, staring at the sky. Her tears evaporated into the air, and her red hair fluttered softly in the breeze.
Then, she lowered her head again. Trembling once more.
"Are you good?" Nathan asked.
She trembled again, like someone barely suppressing a laugh. She touched her cheek with her right hand, tucking some hair behind her ear.
"I’m ... Go.. Good. We’re... almost out of the forest," she replied.
"You sure? What happened to you before?" Nathan asked.
"Huh? I.. i don’t know," she answered while tilting her head, looking at Nathan from the corner of her eye like someone peeking mischievously.
Velmora started moving again, stepping one pace ahead of Nathan.
