Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World

Chapter 473: Waiting Period

Kael didn’t mind what the information about Project Ape implied.

If the information on the terminal was to be believed, then that would mean that Kael’s past life was more of a lie than anything.

Everyone back there was a creature trapped in the weak body of a human, just like on Planet Kareem.

Almost all humans would live and die without ever knowing who they truly were.

Now that Kael thought about it, there was some sense to his reincarnation. It was very likely that in his past life, he was actually a lion in the human body.

If someone had removed the devolution seed from Kael, he would have probably turned into a lion.

Probably.

The Project Ape file mentioned that most humans retained some mild and barely noticeable personality traits that sometimes reflected the true beast within them.

These traits could be tracked with the most casual things, like career choice, temperament, thought pattern, and so on.

Some humans could be quite rash and unnecessarily aggressive. Some were unusually calm, especially under pressure. A few of them showed traits of extreme greediness.

The traits usually show up in children but are hidden away by the time they become adults. It’s still there, just covered so that they can be accepted in society.

Although it was difficult to pinpoint the exact type of original creature each human was with these traits alone, it could provide a range of estimates.

Not everyone was like Ralph, a Primordial who shone like a beacon to the other wolves.

One easy way that Kael might be able to identify the original creature of each human would be to ask them what their favorite animal was.

This question was also not universal as it didn’t work well a lot of times. On planet Kareem, many humans had favorite animals that they had never seen before.

Whether they could be identified or not was not the main use of the humans though. The main use was the Devolution Seed.

So many Devolution Seeds were definitely a weapon or a torture device. Planet Kareem itself could be used as a prison of sorts to dumb enemies and watch them die.

But if Planet Kareem were to act as a prison, a farm, or an experimental location, then it would need to be managed.

This also meant that the humans here would have to be managed very well. There needed to be wardens, those who would ensure that humans never crossed a certain level of technology.

All will be set in motion.

Time passed.

Just as it was meant to be, N’bayé and Kael put their focus on excavating the facility.

They would have preferred it if they didn’t need to do so but for the sake of the anti-power rockets, they had to.

The hibernation pods were moved first.

No arkships arrived, just droves of magic shuttles. Each hibernation pod was carefully removed from the facility and loaded into the magic shuttles.

Kael had the intention of waking the monkeys up but he had to wait first. The monkeys had to be out in a controlled environment where he could monitor them carefully.

And he would need their Primordial so that he could exercise control over them as soon as possible.

Kael planned on doing a controlled breeding program in one of the arkships, killing and reproducing these monkeys as fast as possible until a Primordial was born.

And what if the Primordial Monkey already existed? Won’t that make Kael’s efforts be in vain?

Kael doubted that a Primordial monkey existed somewhere. If it did, the monkeys would not be in such a sorry position.

A calamity that had threatened to wipe out the whole race, surely the Primordial Monkey back then must have been among the first few to receive the full brunt of that calamity.

Kael had to at least try, the monkeys were valuable and he was eager to have control over their affiliated law.

As for the contents of the terminal, N’bayé and many other Magus lions and lionesses copied them into info orbs.

With that, the only use of the terminal itself was as a device to be studied.

What remained was a bare facility with a terminal and the anti-power rockets.

That the excavation of the facility didn’t catch the attention of all the humans all over the world would be a lie.

They literally saw magic shuttles flying through the sky from one horizon to the other, parking on the moon, and flying to who knows where.

But it was as if the government just turned a blind eye to all this. There was little to no military response, and very few media outlets covered news about the alien visitors.

No politician came out to talk about it, some gave hints but that was it. It was almost like the upper echelons of human society had been taken over by some secret force.

The closest thing they got to a resistance was internet outcries from small-time and upcoming influencers.

And just like that, the facility, the origin of humanity, was taken away from Planet Kareem with the inhabitants’ knowledge.

But this was just the start of the weird things that would continue to go on.

All the nations of planet Kareem started seeing drastic changes in their political systems. Some democracies turned to dictatorships and some monarchies turned to democracies.

Those tech companies that had once monopolized cyberspace were slowly being weeded out. Former richest men and women were losing their wealth, and activists were being assassinated.

And in some rare cases, the aliens showed up themselves to settle ’differences’.

It took a few months but Planet Kareem eventually became stable. The political landscape became stable, and the capitalist markets resumed their usual chaos.

Things were fine. The aliens seem to have gone into observer mode, just spectating the lives of the humans.

The humans themselves never forgot, the lower and middle class people were not prevented from talking about the alien events.

Videos were still being shared and groups were still having heated discussions about it.

However, whenever certain high-status people wanted to talk about it, they were hunted down by the wolves.

For some time, Ralph and Commander Bibi used the planet as a training ground, testing out the mission features of the wolf system.

This was another development that happened during Kael’s one-year waiting period.

The wolves were gradually shaping their culture and traditions around the concept of hunting.

Target, tracking, trophies. These were concepts that were integrated well into their society.

They would take missions from the mission board to hunt down certain high-status humans.

It was almost like the missions of the lion system except theirs revolved more around Hunting Activity.

These missions in turn allowed Ralph to accumulate Hunting Essence and get stronger. Thanks to Kael, he was able to quickly evolve to tier 4 and be of greater use.

There was an issue that Kael identified though. It was related to the missions of both Vultures and Wolves.

ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡~𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢~𝙣𝙚𝙩

Their missions were low.

The wolves had hunting missions and the Vultures had something similar which was more about converting a certain number of creatures into undead or maintaining mortality rate in some places.

The Vultures’ missions were somewhat broad but less aggressive. If their mission told them to maintain the death rate of a random community, there were a lot of ways to do it without actually engaging in combat.

They also had a mission that forced them to collect undead creatures into the system’s private space.

The Vultures were more like escorts of death than assassins while the wolves were mostly hunters.

Through the systems, each caste was able to tap into the power of their Primordials. The vultures could perform necromancy to a limited level, a pay-to-summon-undead feature.

The wolves were allowed to keep trophy marks in their system profiles. Each trophy mark was gotten from a successful hunt and was pretty much useless besides serving as proof of capability in case of private missions.

Of course, there were still subcastes in each case but it still revolved around their affiliated laws.

The problem was the frequency of the missions being posted.

In the lion system, lions were posting all manner of missions related to Conquering. The Law of Conquering itself was very broad and included a lot of activities.

By the nature of the lions, they would feel inclined to post missions for other lions.

But it wasn’t the same for the wolves and the vultures. All of them were searching for missions for themselves and didn’t have time or the need to post missions for others.

Because of this, there was a shortage of missions to complete in the two systems.

Thankfully, Kael had a solution to this. He would have to link the systems together so that others outside the system could post missions.

If lions could post missions for the wolves, it would be a wonderful thing. In fact, there might be an excess of missions for the wolves, same with the vultures.

If wolves and vultures could post missions for each other, it would be nice. But if the lions could post missions to the other systems, it would solidify their superiority and authority over the castes.

Alas, the idea existed, but Kael wasn’t capable of doing it yet as this would be a significant link between two or more laws.

Kael would need another specific law to bridge the gap and connect the systems to each other.
