Chapter 468: Devious Father
"That’s enough, Ozia," Kael’s authoritative voice echoed from the sky.
The clouds stilled.
Down below inside the wide crater, Ozia’s fist froze in front of Isabel’s face.
Most of Isabel’s body was buried in rubble but her head was still exposed as that was Ozia’s principal focus for his punches.
He wished badly to pound her head into a mushy mess, but he couldn’t.
Currently, his fist was just a few inches away from touching Isabel’s face which was still covered in that golden sheen.
Ozia’s expression was dark and his eyes were becoming more terrifying. He blinked, sighed, and stood up.
Levitation runes lit up on his feet and he floated out of the crater, leaving Isabel there.
Isabel, who had kept her eyes closed for most of the beat down, noticed the lack of punches and opened her eyes.
She saw Ozia calmly floating out of the crater, bringing her relief.
’Did the king come to save me?’ Isabel asked herself, willing to be delusional to find peace in her heart.
Up above, Kael hovered under the clouds with his hands placed behind his back and his legs put together.
His golden eyes stared down at the destruction of the city with calm indifference. He turned his head to look at the faraway school, where it had all started from.
The bloody mess that was now the school’s front yard merely gained his attention for two seconds before he turned away.
"What a waste," Kael muttered.
He faced his front to see that Ozia was now hovering in front of him.
Kael looked at this child’s boyish appearance from head to toe and acknowledged the aura as well as the negativity pooling out of his mind.
For a few seconds, they faced each other without saying anything. Kael’s golden eyes on Ozia’s face and Ozia’s rune-filled eyes on Kael’s face.
Father and son looked at each other with no witnesses besides the sky.
It looked like a stare-off, with Kael keeping a calm demeanor and Ozia struggling to maintain eye contact.
Finally, Ozia broke his gaze and looked slightly to the side. He couldn’t maintain eye contact with his father.
His eyes itched and he felt like the longer he looked at Kasl like that, the closer to death he would be.
Little did he know that the manner in which he was looking at Kael was extremely proactive and was very similar to a challenge.
Indeed, Kael would have done something really harmful to Ozia if he had not broken eye contact.
Ozia himself wasn’t aware of what he was doing, only that he was angry and frustrated. His heart was in turmoil and he couldn’t reason properly for now.
Kael let it go as he could somewhat understand how Ozia was currently feeling.
"Father," Ozia spoke, looking down and no longer glancing at Kael’s face.
"Why did this happen to me?" Ozia asked.
Kael’s gaze faltered, he was looking at Ozia but the little boy’s image overlapped with the image of himself from his past life.
It was like he was looking at a strange mirror. Kael’s heart shook.
That was the same question Kael had asked in his past life. But unlike Ozia, he couldn’t ask the question to anyone but himself.
There was no one to answer that question for him back then.
And now, here he was. Ozia was privileged to have Kael here. He had someone to answer the question for him.
"Why did she betray me, Father?" Ozia asked. He had done his best to hold it in but he couldn’t do it any longer, tears streamed down his cheeks.
"Why wouldn’t it?" Kael asked back, stunning Ozia.
"Why wouldn’t it happen to you, Ozia? Tell me.
What made you think that what you had with her was so special that nothing would ever spoil it?
Why wouldn’t she betray you? Who are you?
You claim to be a royal lion, a prince, my first son.
Yet you act like a pussy."
Kael was brutally blunt, not sugarcoating the words coming out of his mouth.
"Life isn’t fair Ozia, that’s something that you used to be aware of before you met Isabel.
What? Do you think you’re some holy son that is immune to betrayal?
A good man is good until he has a reason to be bad. Isabel had every reason not to take you seriously.
You were a simp, you had no frame, you buckled under all her requests, you couldn’t even tell her no properly.
Compared to you, that fox guy who had been ravaging her behind your back was not better than you. He didn’t have a higher status or more resources to offer. He was just...not you.
You lost the moment you made love the reason for doing anything. She was doing what she was doing for her survival and self-interest and you were doing it for the sake of companionship and love.
The relationship was one-sided and it was bound not to work in your favor.
Not just Isabel, look around you. Everyone will betray you once you give them a reason to.
You think that by being good enough they’ll respect and love you? No, they’ll trample over you and take advantage of you."
Ozia’s shoulders slumped, the anger had faded away now, although his mind was still filled with dark thoughts.
He was tired and depressed.
"Everyone experiences these things at some point, Ozia," Kael continued.
"Some of us were prepared. We’ve never expected anyone to last forever with us and have prepared replacements and consequences for anyone who wishes to betray us.
Permanence is an illusion, anything that can end will end unless you take the nail down by force.
And there are those of us who were never prepared for things like this to happen. It hit us hard and it hit us fast, leaving us in a wreck.
But it has happened. Now you know.
Instead of asking why it happened, you should be thinking of what you will do from now on.
Use that brain of yours to think, see the patterns. What can you do to prevent things like this from happening?"
Ozia’s eyes glowed with understanding. Luckily, he was able to grab on to what Kael was saying very fast.
Cruelty, tyranny, fear, ruthlessness. Those words flew into Ozia’s mind and lodged themselves within.
Indeed, he knew what he had to do to prevent things like this from happening.
"Do you see your mistake now?" Kael asked, noticing that gleam in his son’s eyes.
"Yes, Father!" Ozia responded respectfully.
"Good. This was a good time to experience this, hence I allowed it. Imagine if you experienced this later in life when you were already established.
It could be disastrous.
Now, you can pick up the pieces of your heart that she broke and forge them into something unbreakable." Kael said.
The blonde-haired king wore a satisfied smile on his face which was illuminated by the setting sun.
Ozia was finally being molded into the son he wanted.
"I know what to do, Father. First, I must kill that wench!" Ozia declared.
He was a lot calmer now, understanding how things were to be done from now on. He couldn’t let Isabel live, the fact that she was still alive would be a constant reminder of his foolishness and moment of weakness.
And Ozia didn’t like it.
"I can’t let you do that," Kael said calmly. He looked down at the crater and saw Isabel already at the edge, climbing out.
"Why?" Ozia frowned, displeased.
Kael glanced at him and Ozia quickly softened his expression and behaved himself.
"She very likely has the Primordial Fox forming in her womb. At least, I can sense a presence like that.
It’s a coincidence, one that favors me." Kael said.
Ozia now realized the reason why Kael had put that defensive rune on Isabel. It wasn’t like he was suddenly developing a good heart or anything.
Isabel just happened to be carrying an asset in her womb and Kael wanted it.
"Don’t worry, I have the perfect punishment for her.
Did you think I would sit and watch as a fox tarnished the name of my Ol-mytee Clan?"
Kael then waved his hand. A little black bead flew out of nowhere and arrived in front of Ozia.
It was a limit seal, the very same one that had been extracted from Isaiah.
Now that they were on Planet Kareem, a place teeming with humans, Kael had access to a lot of limit seals and was planning on taking some very soon.
In a way, Planet Kareem was also a limit seal farm.
Seeing the limit seal in front of him, Ozia’s lips parted into a cruel smile. Of course, Kael could think of the perfect punishment.
"Yes, the mortality, suffering, and everyday activities of humanity are the perfect punishment for someone like Isabel," Kael said, watching Ozia take the limit seal into his hands.
"We have exposed her. We’ve shown her the life among the stars, power and strength, and riches. And now, you can take it all away.
Let her spend the rest of her life missing and daydreaming about the wonderful past that she once had.
Once she’s a human, introduce her to as much suffering as you wish, but the child is mine."
Kael’s eyes shone with the desire for diabolism.
"It will be done, Father," Ozia nodded, a little bit too excited, "I’ll make sure of it."
