Chapter 1285: Infighting 2
As the two of them argued more and more heatedly, turning red-faced, others hurriedly intervened to smooth things over.
"Okay, okay, today is He Nan and Mianmian’s wedding. Out of respect for Elder Master He and Lingyu, let’s not get angry. Let’s enjoy the meal in peace, and everyone can sit wherever they like!"
The woman who said this covertly patted the leg of the wealthy lady beside her, signaling her to temper her anger.
This was the wedding of the He Family and the Ruan Family. If things turned unpleasant, it would offend both families.
The wealthy lady clearly realized this, and hence didn’t make another peep. Yet, Cheng’s mother thought others were intimidated by her, her expression turned smugly triumphant, her chin almost lifted to the sky.
At another table, Cheng Xining also wasn’t well-received. She sat at Luo Jingjing’s table and, upon seating herself, deliberately lowered her neckline a bit more, naturally attracting some chilly stares, and one person even intentionally made veiled criticisms.
"Sisters should keep an eye on their husbands; don’t let them be targeted by some vixens."
"Don’t worry! Only some old men aren’t picky eaters; my husband, no matter how bad, wouldn’t want just any goods," echoed someone in agreement.
Compared to others, Luo Jingjing didn’t speak too harshly, but her lack of a friendly demeanor was indeed genuine. Everyone privately had plenty of gossip about Cheng Xining, and whenever her name came up, it was accompanied by a wave of scolding—chiefly because one of Cheng Xining’s boyfriends was a husband from their social circle.
Cheng Xining’s behavior of being knowingly complicit was very distasteful to them, particularly because later Cheng Xining had successive romances with the father and son of the Su Gen family—actions they viewed as morally depraved.
"If you’re scared, just keep your man locked up at home, so he doesn’t go out. If you can’t control your man, it’s only then you’d blame other women for being too dazzling," retorted Cheng Xining, who was not a pushover. When others confronted her, she shot back. After all, she’d been used to being berated over the years.
In terms of thick-skinned, there was no one present who could outdo her.
