Hearing Cheng Xining’s words, Ruan Lingyu felt even more heartbroken for her; in comparison, Shen Mianmian seemed like the child who was truly thoughtless.
"Xining, you’ve really grown up, much more sensible than before. If Shen Mianmian were as understanding as you, I wouldn’t be so angry now," said Ruan Lingyu.
Ruan Lingyu knew well how much Cheng Xining liked He Nan, but she was willing to step aside to make way for Shen Mianmian and He Nan. She had not doted on Cheng Xining in vain.
"Auntie, all these are things I should do. Shen Mianmian might be somewhat difficult now, but over these years, she did suffer quite a bit; it hasn’t been easy for her," Cheng Xining said.

"I don’t know the details," Cheng Xining said. "All I know is, the time I saw her, it was at Brother Nan’s place. Shen Mianmian lived across from him in an upscale community where rent costs a pretty penny each month. Though she claimed ignorance, her words clearly suggested that Shen Mianmian was living a life of no want, with good food and comfortable housing.
