Shen Mianmian hastily stuffed the clothes back into the bag and handed over the money to the cashier. "Here’s ninety yuan, the extra ten is for the trouble caused."
The cashier was somewhat stunned. She hadn’t expected Shen Mianmian to not only not complain about the expensive clothes but also to give an extra ten yuan. After thinking it over, she couldn’t help but say, "Looking at both of you, you don’t seem like people short of money. Try not to do this in the future, not every shop owner is as good-natured as me."
Some overly harsh shop owners really would strip off clothes, especially from a girl as pretty as Shen Mianmian, making them even more inclined to act.
Shen Mianmian smiled faintly and softly explained, "We didn’t steal anything. The clothes were put into our bag by someone else. But, saying that, no one believes us anyway, so I don’t want to explain too much. Thank you for being polite all this time."
Throughout the encounter, the cashier had never spoken harshly or purposefully made things difficult for them, and just for that, Shen Mianmian found her quite agreeable.
Upon hearing Shen Mianmian’s words, the cashier felt somewhat guilty. She didn’t know why, but even though she had caught them red-handed, she felt that Shen Mianmian’s words were credible.
As the two were leaving, bystanders pointed at the cashier and said, "That young girl is a bit foolish to let the thieves go so easily."
"If it were me, I wouldn’t let them leave without leaving all the money, and certainly not let them take the clothes."
"Not calling the police on them is already very kind."
Shen Mianmian and Yang Xiaoxi didn’t pay any attention to those people and directly left the mall.
