Chapter 230: Hiding Money
Shen Jianhua was out visiting neighbors with two others, leaving Shen Mianmian alone at home. She sat in her room, pondering for a while when her eyes suddenly lit up.
She took out the malted milk bottle from her schoolbag. The malted milk inside was nearly finished—just one more drink and it would be gone.
Seizing the opportunity of being alone at home, Shen Mianmian drank the last of the malted milk mixed with water, then washed the bottle, arranged the money well, and stuffed it all inside.
The Shen Family’s house was still made of mud bricks; it was somewhat damp in the summer, always carrying a musty earth smell, and though it was somewhat better in winter, there was still a scent.
Shen Mianmian made a round of the room and then ran to the kitchen to grab the frying spatula. She used it to furiously dig at the floor by the foot of the bed.
After about twenty minutes, she had dug a small hole deep enough to fit the malted milk bottle.
She placed the bottle in the hole and restored the floor to its original state. Not entirely reassured, she then covered it with an old shoe for extra concealment.
Zhou Lanfang and Shen Jianhua usually didn’t come into her room.
