Marvel: Empire of Power

Chapter 101: The Kree Overture, a Star-Struck Heroine, and the Price of Cosmic Awareness

The early 1970s, while outwardly dominated by the Cold War détente and proxy conflicts, saw Elias Thorne's attention increasingly drawn beyond Earth's atmosphere. Dr. Finch's analysis of the "Frozen Throne" artifact from Greenland and the Atlantean archives provided by a now begrudgingly respectful Namor ([Loyalty: 72% - Realization of Host's Indispensability in Global/Cosmic Stability; Personal Power Augmentation via Shared Oceanic Mastery Link]) hinted at ancient extraterrestrial interventions in Earth's history, at "star gods" and "celestial architects" whose technologies and conflicts had shaped human mythology and potentially even its genetic destiny. The Tesseract, lost since Adlerhorst, was one such artifact of immense cosmic power. The Klyntar symbiote, still dormant and under intense study in Elias's Montreal vault, was another.

The System, responding to this influx of cosmic-level data, began to unlock new, unsettling research paths: [EXTRATERRESTRIAL THREAT ASSESSMENT PROTOCOLS], [ALIEN TECHNOLOGY REVERSE-ENGINEERING (THEORETICAL)], [PRIME CONDUIT SIGNATURES (NON-TERRESTRIAL ORIGIN) – SEARCH ALGORITHMS ACTIVATED]. Elias realized, with a chilling certainty, that his carefully constructed terrestrial empire, his meticulously managed superhuman chessboard, was merely one small part of a much larger, infinitely more dangerous cosmic game. Hydra's ambitions, even Schmidt's quest for godhood, paled in comparison to the powers that might exist beyond Earth.

His first inkling of this new frontier came not from an ancient artifact, but from a series of highly classified, heavily fragmented intelligence reports Anya Petrova's network intercepted from a joint S.H.I.E.L.D./US Air Force "Project Pegasus" – a clandestine operation attempting to study and weaponize "unusual energy sources of suspected off-world origin" recovered from various crash sites and anomalous events over the preceding decades.

One such event, a "meteoritic impact" in the Mojave Desert in 1967, had yielded not a meteor, but the wreckage of a small, incredibly advanced alien scout ship. Its pilot, though deceased, was humanoid but clearly not human, possessing blue skin and a physiology that Dr. Finch (analyzing leaked autopsy photos Anya procured) identified as remarkably similar to certain figures depicted in ancient Sumerian and Incan "sky god" mythologies. The ship's energy core, though damaged, still pulsed with a strange, vibrant power. S.H.I.E.L.D. was attempting to understand it, to replicate it, with predictably disastrous and contained results.

The System flagged this instantly: [KREE EMPIRE SIGNATURE DETECTED (Mojave Crash Site – Project Pegasus). Race: Kree (Militaristic, Technologically Advanced, Expansionist Galactic Empire). Threat Level: POTENTIAL GALACTIC HEGEMON – SIGNIFICANT LONG-TERM THREAT IF EARTH IS TARGETED. Opportunity: Acquisition of Advanced Kree Technology (Energy Weaponry, Faster-Than-Light Travel Principles, Genetic Engineering). Prime Essence Shard Potential (from Kree tech/biology): HIGH.]

The Kree. A name that resonated with ancient Atlantean legends of "star conquerors" Namor had shared. This was not just theory; this was hard evidence of a major galactic power having already touched Earth.

Elias immediately tasked his assets. O'Malley, with his "Blackwood Skunkworks" R&D team, was instructed to prioritize research into advanced energy shielding and propulsion systems capable of countering or replicating Kree technology, using Zola's notes, Finch's theoretical work, and the Element X data as a foundation. He needed to prepare for a future where earthly conflicts might be superseded by extraterrestrial ones.

His eight [True Legionnaires (Tier 3 Prime)] – Marcus Primus, David Secundus (Techno-Adept), Dubois Tertius (Energy Gauntlets), Macgregor Quartus (Sensory Disruptor), Miller Argent (Trauma Revenant), Elena Scythe (Kinetic Blades), and two newer Legionnaires: Hiro "Ronin" Sato (master swordsman/infiltrator, his energy channeling manifesting as enhanced weapon bonding and precognitive reflexes) and Zara "Bastion" Al-Jamil (unbreakable defensive psionic/energy shielding, capable of protecting entire squads) – were put on high alert. Their training now incorporated simulated encounters with "non-humanoid threats" and "advanced energy weaponry."

The true opportunity, however, came through an unexpected vector. One of the few S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel with clearance to Project Pegasus and its Kree artifacts was a brilliant but reckless USAF test pilot named Carol Danvers. Danvers, Anya reported, had been exposed to a massive energy surge during a catastrophic accident involving the Kree ship's damaged engine core. She hadn't died. Instead, she had vanished for several weeks, only to reappear with fragmented memories and... incredible new abilities. She could fly, project powerful blasts of photonic energy, and possessed superhuman strength and durability. S.H.I.E.L.D., under Peggy Carter's (and now also Nick Fury's – a rising, pragmatic operative within S.H.I.E.L.D.'s covert operations division) direct supervision, was desperately trying to understand and control her. They saw her as America's new super-weapon, a living embodiment of alien power, a potential replacement for the still-missing (publicly) Captain America.

The System designation for Carol Danvers was explosive: [PRIME CONDUIT (CAROL DANVERS/CAPTAIN MARVEL – KREE ENERGY HYBRID – OMEGA LEVEL POTENTIAL). Current Status: Unstable, Amnesiac, Under S.H.I.E.L.D. Containment/Observation. Abilities: Photonic Energy Projection/Absorption, Hypersonic Flight, Superhuman Strength/Durability (Cosmic Tier), Limited Cosmic Awareness. Threat Level: EXTREME (Uncontrolled power, unpredictable allegiances). Opportunity: IMMENSE (Potential for loyal Omega-Tier asset, access to Kree energy secrets, direct counter to galactic-level threats). Recommended Action: IMMEDIATE OBSERVATION, ESTABLISH CONTACT, ATTEMPT INTEGRATION/SYSTEM SYNERGY.]

An Omega-level Prime Conduit, created by accidental exposure to Kree technology. This was a prize beyond anything Elias had encountered since Logan. And she was American, currently under S.H.I.E.L.D. control. Directly acquiring her was impossible, for now.
