Marvel: Empire of Power

Chapter 68: The Omega Strain, a Pacific Apex

The whispers of the Allied "Project M" and the internal American struggles over replicating the Super-Soldier effect created a new layer of urgency for Elias Thorne. His own efforts to reverse-engineer Erskine's serum with Dr. Finch had hit a wall without the Vita-Radiation emitter. The "Serum Berserker" variant was too unstable, too costly in terms of subject burnout, for anything beyond desperation plays. He needed that final [1.1 Prime Essence Shards] to unlock more advanced System template work or attempt another Host Power Augmentation, which might grant him the insight or ability to overcome the Vita-Radiation hurdle.

The Pacific theater, increasingly the domain of his Feral Striker pack and their uneasy alliance with Namor, became the most promising arena for acquiring these remaining Shards. Namor, his loyalty now hovering around [48% (Shared Victories Against Imperial Japan Strengthening Pact; Growing Respect for Host's "Surface Dweller" Efficiency)], provided intelligence on a particularly ambitious Japanese undertaking: "Project Omega Strain."

"They delve into things best left forgotten, Thorne," Namor's mental voice, now clearer and more forceful in Elias's mind due to their enhanced resonance, conveyed a chilling warning. "Near the volcanic Koro Sea, they have established a deep-sea facility, 'Shinkai no Me' (Eye of the Abyss). They are not just hybridizing marine life with humans; they are attempting to... awaken or genetically reconstruct truly ancient, abyssal lifeforms. Beings that predate Atlantis, that slumbered when your continents were still molten. They seek to weaponize the primal terror of the ocean's deepest heart."

The System immediately flagged this as a [TIER OMEGA THREAT (PROJECT OMEGA STRAIN – JAPANESE IMPERIAL NAVY/BLACK OCEAN SOCIETY). Potential for Uncontrolled Kaiju Genesis/Weaponization of Prehistoric Abyssal Apex Predators. HIGH PROBABILITY OF UNIQUE/ANCIENT PRIME ESSENCE SIGNATURES.]

This was it. A target of immense risk, but potentially, immense reward.

Elias briefed Thomas MacIntyre and his "Adamantium Guard" Feral Striker pack (Dubois, Macgregor, Lemaire, and Beaulieu) aboard the Sea Serpent, which now served as their mobile Pacific command center, equipped with advanced sonar (Namor's guidance) and salvaged/adapted Hydra and Japanese technology O'Malley had reverse-engineered.

"This 'Shinkai no Me' is likely their most heavily defended, most esoteric research facility yet," Elias explained via holographic projection. "We are not just facing enhanced soldiers or mutated animals. Namor speaks of creatures from primordial nightmares. Your objective is threefold: locate and neutralize the primary researchers, destroy the Omega Strain development program, and secure any advanced research or unique biological samples – including Shard-bearing entities, if encountered."

It was a suicide mission by any conventional military standard. But the Feral Strikers were anything but conventional. Their combat skills had been honed to a terrifying edge by months of brutal amphibious assaults and encounters with bizarre bio-weapons. Dubois was a walking siege engine, Macgregor a silent death in shadows and water, Lemaire a master of infiltration and sabotage, and Beaulieu, with his "Aquatic Predator" specialization, was now as comfortable fighting beneath the waves as on land. Their pack cohesion was absolute, their loyalty to Thomas and Elias unwavering.

The approach to "Shinkai no Me" was a testament to Namor's power and Elias's technological ingenuity. The facility was built around a cluster of deep-sea hydrothermal vents, using the geothermal energy to power its operations and the superheated, mineral-rich water for its grotesque experiments. Namor guided the Sea Serpent through treacherous underwater volcanic mountain ranges, using his hydrokinesis to mask their acoustic signature from Japanese patrols.
